I have friends making manager salary at around $35K-$40K. They think they are set with that living here in So Cal.

With that salary, you're still barely making it on your own in a small apartment.

Managing what? That doesn't sound like a lot, especially in CA.

An Arizona Daily Star review of city salaries last year showed the 1,000th highest-paid employee earned $72,411, which is $37,000 more than the average Tucsonan. Pima County paid its 1,000th top earner $63,258, about $28,000 more than the average resident pulls down.

depressing.. But 35-40k? Is he a "Shift manager" at McDonald's? No offense but in So Cal you need like you say 36k just to afford the 2k a month apartment without food/utilities.

Don't even get me started. I've been saying this same sh!t for about 30 years now. The average worker salary has been losing very serious ground since the late 1970's. I was making $14 an hour ($40K with overtime) back in 1979 at a Teamster Union warehouse. What happened? Corporations went crazy. Unions dissolved. CEO pay up 350% while worker salaries stagnated. Reaganomics??? Bullsh!t. TRICKLE DOWN MY AZZ.

Key is... go to school and get an ENGINEERING degree. Most other degrees are pretty much worthless when it comes to getting paid. I know must of you are old fuks like me, but steer your kids in the right direction. Here’s data from a company that is similar to mine....

An Entry-Level XXXXXX Engineer at XXXXXX earns an average salary of $68,237 per year.

Any STEM degree is a smart idea. Do you realize that basic middle class is about 78k a year in most states...

Probably in the low 20k range. I live in the poorest city in Pennsylvania.

The 78k is HOUSEHOLD income. Thats the average two working parents. It is not the average stat for a single person

Don't know, but it's got to be very low. This is a tourist town, and most jobs are in the service industry.
