Majority of the homeless I see are voluntary because they don't have to work and can continue their addictions (drugs, booze, etc).
Most of the involuntary homeless I've noticed are ones with mental issues. Helping them is a challenge because they usually cannot normally function in society and would likely need to be housed and/or supported for life. That would require building housing projects that caters specifically to people with mental issues including having counselors and social works and (possibly medical staff depending on their issues) available to assist them.
If you want to build a facility that isn't like a prison and is actually halfway decent, it's going to cost a lot of money to build and maintain and the politicians would rather spend it on their pet projects (you could campaign on helping the homeless, but homeless people don't donate campaign funds so why not fund a project to support those that do). Not to mention the fact whatever it would cost a private corporation to build would likely be 3x as much for a government to build due to waste, corruption and incompetency. Then there's also the issue of having to constantly try to vet out housing candidates who really need it vs the ones who could survive on their own but want a free/reduced ride.Comment -

I live in Southern California - the melting pot of the world - and here's the homeless I see that walk up to my car or hit me up outside of a store panhandling (in order of appearance):
White Man
Black Man
White Woman
Black Woman
NEVER have I seen an Asian, Indian, or Middle Eastern. And the Hispanics have too much pride to straight up panhandle - at least they're trying to sell you oranges or flowers or something. So, what does that tell you? Maybe if we focus on family and education, work hard, DON'T EXPECT THE FU##ING GOVERNMENT TO HAND YOU S#!T JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE ALIVE AND RAISE YOUR G0DDAMN KIDS YOU S#!T OUT, the "homeless" problem will magically disappear.....

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but eff it - I'd be down for mandatory Norplant for every girl on their 10th birthday, and then it gets removed on their 18th. But instead what we have are shows like "Teen Mom" on MTV glorifying how "cool" and "hip" it is to burden the system with another screaming, eating, s#itting societal drain. And then the sweet irony when that show goes to commercial and there's a PSA about giving third hand smoke to your cat.....Comment -

So i live in vancouver, ca and things arent thatbad here, but ... i know 3 people who immigrated here from Dubai in their teens or early 20s, and heres what i noticed - all 3 of them look hot( 2 chicks and even the dude i play soccer with can probably compete for a contract with beckham). All 3 can converse on any subject in a way other than saying Cool, awesome, ok, etc. But expressing their opinion intelligently.
So i asked them what is different about upbringing in Dubai vs. Here. And heres what i got for an answer:
1. Every mf...ing day before school starts they do marching and physical exercise as part of curriculum.
2. They actual schooling( not everybody pass easy peasy dont learn nothing shiit)
3. After classes(6-8 per day) over, most kids end up playing sports as those r encouraged to even more extent than in north america.
4. No pop or any bs. Fattening junk is allowed to be sold on school premises.
So problem withnorth american raised generations is they r like cattle- growing up in the environment that encourages them to eat and consume more, while study and learn and know less. And when people end up stupid and dont know what value they are to the society, they get violent or homeless or lazy or a bit of everything.
Not to blame society but every parent here is responsible for wellbeing of their kid pretty much, and instead of good parenting class we are offered gender fluiditybullshit class, which makes me puke at most.Comment -
