'Panic buttons' introduced in Chicago hotels

A new Chicago city ordinance offers hotel workers a new safety measure.

The "Hands Off - Pants On" was celebrated by Chicago by city and union leaders, hotel workers, according to FOX32 in Chicago.

The ordinance requires all hotels in the city to provide panic buttons for housekeeping staff, FOX32 reported.

"The panic buttons will be on their person so they can call for help or signal they're in danger,” Karen Kent, President of Unite Here Local 1 said.

The ordinance was passed by Chicago's city council in Oct. after a survey found 58 percent of hotel workers said they had been sexually harassed by a guest and nearly half of housekeepers said they had a guest expose themselves, flash them or answer the door naked, FOX32 found.

More than 5,000 hotel workers were expected to get the buttons and hotels that don't comply could lose their license.
