Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain found dead> suicide at age of 61

American celebrity chef, gifted storyteller and writer Anthony Bourdain has been found dead at the age of 61 in his hotel room in France.



Bourdain was in Strasbourg, France working on an upcoming episode of his celebrated series "Parts Unknown." He was found unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.



He worked for CNN. The American broadcaster confirmed his death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.



"It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain," the network said in a statement Friday morning.



CNN's statement continued: "His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller.



"His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time."



Bourdain was a best-selling food, fiction and nonfiction author.



In October 2014, Bourdain visited Iran and was mesmerized by the cuisine and hospitality of the people.

In recent years, the suicide rate in the United States has been going up sharply. It's now the 10th leading cause of death in the country, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

This is terrible news.. there are so many people suffering in silence people think because we don't see something it isnt real. Mental health matters so much. There needs to be more done to raise awareness. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I pray more and more people open up talk to someone. I personally have experienced these issues and its just so sad to see more and more people dying. We have one life we need to know there is always a better option

US suicide rates rose more than 25% since 1999


The rate means that around 16 out of every 100,000 Americans will take their own life. Middle-age adults had the highest increase in suicides.



"This is a very important population right now in terms of national statistics," Schuchat said, noting the high rates of drug overdose in this group as well as "deaths of despair" described in social science literature.



The economic recession of the late 2000s and the increase of drug addiction are some of the other factors leading to more frequent incidents of suicide, said Kristin Holland, a behavioral scientist at the CDC.
