9mm for me. Newer ammo is just as lethal as larger calibers... and you can stuff up to 18 rounds into full frame pistols.

9mm for carry, always. high capacity 40s&w or 45 acp for home defense / nightstand gun due to increased stopping power

.45 1911 is my favorite gun. 9mm for conceal. Any 28 inch pump shotgun for home defense - doesnt travel through walls.

9mm has to be the best for conceal/carry...like mentioned above they make some amazing ammo that is plenty powerful and bullets cost 20-30% less than larger calibers. I also have a Winchester short barrel 12 guage with an ATI stock for home defense, never understood why someone would want a pistol for home defense.....you have a 1/2" buffer zone for a pistol, and a 10-14" buffer zone for a shotgun, which makes more sense?

tactical advantage in terms of being smaller. the rifle (shotgun) can be wrestled away if intruder gets close enough, which causes all kinds of problem. also, contrary to popular belief, shotgun rounds will travel through drywall and maim anyone in the next room on the receiving end of it. This is even more pronounced if using 00 buck, which most do. 9mm is a single round hollow point which is easier to control

also, handguns can be effectively used one-handed. by the time you get your weapon ready, you may only have 1 hand free with which to defend yourself
