This must of just happened as of 12:01am today 12/4/17. I was totally surprised today when I clicked on Wikipedia to get the following pop-up (keep in mind they never have pop-ups or ads
"To all our readers in the U.S., We will get straight to the point: This Monday we ask you to protect Wikipedia's independence. Time is running out in 2017 to help us. We depend on donations averaging about $15. Only a tiny portion of our readers give. If everyone reading this gave $3, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of your Monday coffee is all we need. When I made Wikipedia a non-profit, people warned me I’d regret it. Over a decade later, it’s the only top ten site run by a non-profit and a community of volunteers. Has it crossed my mind how much we could have made if it had ads? Sure. But it wouldn’t be the same. We wouldn’t trust it. Most people ignore my messages. But I hope you’ll think about how useful it is to have unlimited access to reliable, neutral information. Please help keep Wikipedia online and growing. Thank you. — Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia Founder"
I don't think there is a single any one of us who uses the internet that has not benefited from Wikipedia many times. Wikipedia is and always has been 100% non-profit and supported by professional volunteers who contributed so much of their resources and time to make Wikipedia all what it is, and they did all so you and others can have free reference and information on just about any given subject out there. Furthermore, think of all the children and students that depend on the information they provide for learning. You would be contributing to them as well. Education can be the difference between a successful happy life vs a junkie on the street.
This is a sports bettors website where we have no problem throwing down our money of pure risk with no guaranteed return. If you can throw your cash away with what is the majority of the times is a 50% risk or greater but can't go to one of the Internet's most greatest free not for profit resources (who has given so much,) and can't give at least a minimum one time donation of $3, ...... then seriously, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!
