The book is extremely long and detailed so it's good that the movie runs a little long. The previews look like they pretty much kept the spirit of the book (which the TV series did not).

The new horror film, based on Stephen King's 1986 bestseller, got off to a record-setting start in its preview night Thursday, Variety reported.
The Andy Muschietti-directed film, which stars Bill Skarsgard as the evil clown Pennywise, racked up $13.5 million in opening receipts, the most ever for a September movie, a horror film, a motion picture with an R-rating and any films previously adapted from King's works.

Now I remember why I hate going to the movies. 4 women brought in a group of 10 year old kids(about 20 of them), and all they did was scream and talk through the movie. Not to mention burst out in laughter at shit that wasn't even funny. And of course 2 queer guys sat right in front of us and every time there was a jump scare these gaymos would embrace each other in fear. Then some bitch behind us kept taking pictures until someone from the back yelled and told her to put her God Dam phone away.
Movie was good. Worth a watch, especially if you seen the shitty TV version back in the day.

To be honest, I thought the movie was funnier than it was scary. We go in the daytime because there is less of a crowd and it's cheaper.

To me what made the movie good was the kids talking shit on and making fun of each other.

I hear the guys didn't run a train on the girl like they did in the book that would of been interesting if they did that

To be honest, it wouldn't have made much sense in this movie, especially considering how young the boys were. The orgy part was after the kids defeated the clown and were lost in the sewers and the girl decided that they should all have sex, so after she has sex with all of the boys, one boy remembers where they came in at. Sounded like a stupid part of the story anyways. King must be some type of pervert.
If they included an unnecessary scene like that in this movie, it would have most likely gotten an NC-17 rating.

Good to hear that most people are like ignoring this. Loved the book. Also loved the Dark Tower series but sounds like nobody liked that movie.

Never really understood that part of the book. Seemed out of place and random and really didn't do anything for the story.

I'm a massive fan of the original and usually hate remakes but I'm looking forward to this - hopefully there will be a conclusion similar to the book when the second part hits the screen and not left open ended to make this a boring franchise like so many other things recently

So far the first part is far better than the original. It's funny, my wife had never seen the original until a few months ago when she got intrigued about this new movie from seeing the trailers, so she rented it and we watched it together. Now I watched it on TV when it aired back in 1990 and I had remembered it as being good. But upon watching it 27 years later, it didn't seem to hold up. Tim Curry was good as Pennywise though. The rest of the kid actors were kind of Meh. I had forgotten that Jonathan Brandis was in the TV movie.
The one thing that bothered me just a bit in this new movie was that the kids didn't seem as scared as they should have been and instead they were cracking jokes when normally they should have been frozen with fear.

solid remake, looks like the next movie is coming considering how well this did at box office. Good thing they cut out the sex scene, that'd be weird enough to watch on your own but imagine in a theater with a bunch of people lol

I an pretty sure that part 2 comes out in 2019. I don't think that any actors have been cast yet though.
There were a surprising amount of young kids in the theater that I was in, so a sex scene like that would have been even more awkward.

So was this just the story of the kids in this movie and not the adults coming back? That would be part 2?

Yes, it was just the part with the kids set in 1989. The next one will have them as adults and take place 27 years later in present time.

My wife wanted to see it badly.
Horror and science fiction are my two least favorite genres.
But since it was getting good reviews, and it's Steven King, which is the reason I decided to go, is the best that ever lived at what he does.
Have to admit, it was a solid film, a tad long, my wife read the book all 1400 pages plus of it said the movie left out a lot of parts from the book, to which I say if you are basing a film on a 1400 page novel, the movie would have to be 10 hours long.
A couple of horror scenes I thought were gratuitous, I said to myself "was that really necessary?"
Like I said, a tad long but done in snappy segments kept the movie at a fast pace.
Photography was amazing, the film featured a cast of unheard ofs, but the actors were all brilliant.
Yeah, if you are thinking about seeing it, I don't like horror films, but this one was good.
