#39WARNING TO ALL CREDIT CARD HOLDERS -
I'm beginning to stop using creedit caards all together.. Too much fraud going on now.. I got hit 2 times already this year and have sizable credit limits on all my cards.. Had 5 cards last year.. Cancelled 2 already last month.... Have a vissa, masstercard and Discover now.. Will dump the Capital one vissa this month and just stick with my Chase viisa bank card.
All my credit card companies have always gone to bat for me and corrected the fraud charges in the past but my last fraud activity the card company only credited a portion.. I got SO PISSED!!!!!.. 5k was used in NY and 2k was used in California and all were complete fraud charges that I did not make.. They decided the NY charges were fraud but the California charges were mine since I live in California...
I called and wrote a second letter to Capital one bank and still they won't credit the $2,150 fraud charges in California as of last week. The fraud activity in California were like 55 charges for $20 each in the span of 3 days to some company not even in the city that I live in..
I have perfect credit now and have 2 choices - pay the $2,150 in fraud charges and close the account or not pay it and ding my perfect credit on principal?
I have 30 days to decide from now.. If I don't pay I will call equifax and tell them my story and hope for the best, send letters out to all credit bureaus in hope they won't ruin my perfect credit...
So now I've requested reduced credit limits on my remaining cards and I won't use them online or on gambling sites anymore, I will use them only in person and in an emergency.. I'm a cash guy now...
I did use my cards on Amazon alot, I used my cards in grocery stores, RiteAid, Gas Stations, restaurants also.. Maybe a sportsbook deposit to join and that's it.. I still got compromised....
Take caution FELLAS and check your credit card charges regularly to see if there is activity.. That's all....Comment -

#40^^^ this problem is a creation of the credit card companies.
The adverts they hammered for years about don't worry about fraud we will just refund charges is the root of the problem. They basically told customers, don't worry about being careful or taking personal responsibility and told the fraudsters don't feel bad you are not hurting the individual.
Then they just reverse charges to merchants who lose their goods/profits and do almost zero to track down or punish the criminals.
In Australia your bank will instantly re-credit fraud charges UNLESS you insist that the police be informed. In that case they freeze your money and give the bare minimum assistance required to the police. Then if the police cant get anywhere and just leave the case open, you never see your money back.
Mainstream banking is a legalized scam operation worse than any other..Comment -

#41Tough one there Jibby. Did you get a police report? Writing the credit reporting agencies will be just a huge waste of time. If you didn't make charges I wouldn't pay. Maybe close the account now? At least it's reported as closed by consumerComment -

#43^^ I don't know guys it's just such a hassle.. I almost want to eat the 2 grand, close the account and be done with it.. My clean credit means a lot to me... However, I'm not gonna lay down like that.
I'm probably gonna fight it, I can't pay for anything I didn't charge.. That's just crazy.. Maybe I will call a lawyer and look into these fraud charges and this vendor more deeply and weigh in my legal options..
Upphilly I will take your advice and close the account today with the balance pending.. No point on keeping it open now..Comment -

#44Surprised Capital 1 is giving you such a hard time over this. My QuickSilver Capital 1 has been compromised many times. They just send me a new card, I was never held responsible for any fraudulent charges.
Capital 1 also has gr8 security, in my humble opinion. They have placed many holds on my account, until I confirm any charges deemed suspicious were mine.Comment -

I called and they just would not bend with these charges being made in my home state just a few days before the NY fraud charges were made.. I don't get it? Like I said all my credit card companies have always come to bat for me and I never had any problems..
This is the first time this has ever happened.. I don't get it????
Working on it now and finding out my legal options.. I'm not gonna pay it... Gonna call and cancel the card in a few minutes as well.. Try talking to the fraud department reps one more time to plead my case...Comment -

#47This is the second time fraud charges have happened with me with this card, once last year.. Wondering if that has something to do with it? No problems last year, they sent me a new card no questions asked and removed the charges.. This time again they sent me a new card again, if you can believe this they even raised my credit limit a few more thousand. They then sent me a letter from the fraud department saying they found the California charges to not be fraudulent.. Total bulllshit..

#48UPDATE -
Well after doing more research, getting a headache and what not, I called Capital One credit card just 20 minutes ago to close my account - I find out my current balance is now $60.00 and all fraud charges cleared.. I ask to get transferred to the fraud department and they confirm the credits have been issued.. I got an apology for all that transpired also from the rep..
Apparently they got my letter late and decided to declare all my fraud charges as legit fraud.. I also think they issued this recent credit line increase as some form of apology as I was a long term costumer...
I'm happy this matter is finally resolved, it took long enough and I did get the run around though.. The card stays open and order is restored..
Still I'm gonna be a little reluctant to use my cards from now on. This was kind of a wake up call for me... I don't want to go thru this again in the future...

#49i know its garbage, probably high 500s or low 600s
i actually just tried get all three my reports for free, been about 3 years since i looked at em'
have been getting spam calls from some place trying sell me extended warranty on a 2012 chevy malibu. ive never owned chevy malibu. told dude that, yet they keep calling, and then i got a letter last week about it. So got me thinking "does someone have a loan for a chevy malibu in my name?"
weird thing is that i could access 2 of the reports, and they looked correct, but couldnt get the equifax report. All 3 had various security questions you had to answer. All multiple choice and the last choice for each question was 'does not apply'.
the equifax , every question i had to choose 'does not apply', cause hadnt done ant of the things listed. So they wouldnt give me my report. Said i could print out some form and make blown up copies of my drivers license and SS card and send that to them. I aint doing all that. ill just gamble that equifax report is same as the other 2 reports.
Still does kind of have me wondering, Cause of the questions it asked. one was about a car loan , something like "what amount was car loan i took out in Oct of 2014 and it listed 4 different amounts, and i had choose 'does not apply' cause i didnt take a car loan out. Then another question was like 'What financial institution did i get a loan through in or around such-n-such date', again i had choose 'does not apply' cause i hadnt got a loan from any of places listed.Comment -
