Went and watched Patriot's Day last night.

It was OK, kinda sad, I would recommend waiting for it to come out on DVD though instead of spending money on it at the theater.

The popcorn was FUKIING GOOD though!

Denzel is one of my favorite actors but from the commercials it seemed like another woes me black film. Seen and heard enough of that in the last 8 years to last a lifetime.

Look and see if there are any other movies in the running that are pro-diversity and make your choice from there. This is the deciding factor nowadays.

Is Hollywood or the SAG anti trump in general? Manchester by the sea looks like it should win best actor and or best film. Seems like the movie will appeal to many of the pro trump guys. Would be a shame if politics decided the outcome bc that movie looks like a winner. This is saloon material

Agreed. It's more a socio/ cultural study in post war black America as a has been narcissistic know it all who never got a shot holds back his son's one big shot based on his own messed up view of the world and people he surrounds himself with.

any movie that is nominated for oscar, you don't need to wait for dvds. all oscar movies will be leaked online ahead of even theatre release in good quality.

Yeah there was cultural bias in parts of the film but the father being jaded due to his own experiences and bad luck seems like a universal theme rather than a cultural one imo

Well the wife wasn't jaded, and the ex con garbage guy was a good man in general. Denzel played a man who surrounded himself with people he could feel better then....remember the money exchange, etc. Denzel then royally screwed over his wife (spoiler alert- I won't much further), which is more about being in control and exerting authority.... I can't speak first hand on black society, but I imagine that based on violence levels alone, control and authority among black males is a serial social cancer, and much like in the movie, resolved with violence and/ or a series of bad choices that destroy families.

Now, if you're saying that there's a universal theme of black bias in today's culture blaming their poor circumstances on bad luck, AMEN- from a 1st hand perspective at the pay day loan center and my USDA RD subsidized apartment complex I own, I can only shake my head at the viewpoint and reality my customers see life thru.
