It's unfortunate that things went the way they did. Things reached a breaking point for him. He felt as if there was a double standard against which he was being judged.

He knew full well that the thread he made this morning was suicide by mod. Cudi and I tried to talk him off the ledge through syndicate back channels but he had made up his mind.

I think many on here failed to see that most of what hippy said was tongue in cheek social commentary meant to ruffle feathers and get people to think about race relations objectively. Yes he said some things that were somewhat intentionally incendiary but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

He will be missed by many. Fortunately a small group of us have the benefit of being able to enjoy his insight off of the forum.

I'm not attempting to justify the "suicide by mod" hippy committed this morning. He is the monk that set himself aflame in an effort to highlight the injustices that he felt were being reinforced by some of our members. He should be remembered as someone who not only stood for something, but as someone who came to make us think, whether you agreed with him or not.

I hope sbr decides to allow him to return one day but if they don't, he will be remembered.

How can you tell that someone is banned?

Most people here don't disable PM's on their own.

So if it doesn't say "Message Me" under someone's betpoints balance, it's a clear indication their banned or turned off PM's (unlikely).

This guy's permanent ban actually happened when I was asleep for the night and the first I heard of it was by seeing this thread just now. I read what he wrote and whether it was about me or another staff member - who he did trash at the end - he would be permanently banned. And the point is, he knew it. Some of you are saying he was a smart guy so I'm not sure what the dilemma is here. I gave him a day ban instead of the 10 I was supposed to after receiving countless reported posts about him. I figured he just needed a break but instead of just returning to the forum like a normal poster who wants to be a member here, he launched into a tirade about a staff member knowing full well he'd be banned. He got what he wanted so there should be no question as to why he's not returning to the forum nor should he even want to.

In the future for those of you with a brain... if you receive a omfg one day ban (instead of the ten days you should've got or even the permanent one many asked for you) and it was unfair because of whatever you believe in your little heart, then if you still want to be a member of the place you received that 24 hour ban from , here's a hint: Come back like a sane, normal person, send the Admin or Mod who gave you a ban a PM and say hey, I feel like this was unfair and this is why... Or if you don't want to talk to that staff member, send an email to the forum so Admin will see it. That's what someone with a 'brain' would do
