#2Toyota makes a great car. A little more luxury than a Camry. Just make sure you check pricing out because cars can be sold at very different prices depending on who you are buying from. You could get some Avalon customers who give it a low rating as opposed to the Camry, but it SHOULD be a solid car.Comment -

#3Test drive everything you can before you buy. I think the two of you will find the American cars in this segment to be far superior. European cars are better also, but you pay too much for the names.Comment -

#4I don't think any American car company can compare to Toyota, Kia and Hyundai for value. Know a lot about cars and don't think it is even close. Just my opinion.Comment -

#5Have driven Toyota's/Lexus for over 15 years with no major problems.
Had a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 6 yrs and had to ditch it before 80,000 miles because it was a piece of crap.
I will vouch for the Toyota brand. No red flags there.Comment -

A mechanic buddy loves Japanese cars, because they keep him doing good business (if you know what I mean).
To each his own though.Comment -

#7I consider myself a car enthusiast also, and wouldn't touch a Japanese or Korean car with a ten foot pole (well, I have test driven and had many as courtesy cars, but that's it).

I have not seen those results myself.Comment -

#9Same here. i have 189k on my 4runner and 156k on my sienna and only paid a shop to do timing belts/water pumps, everything else I do myself.
They are recommended replace at 90-110k and probably run you about 700 bucks to have it done
Complete myth that Japanese cars are harder to work on or break down more oftenComment -

#13Can't go wrong with a Toyota. They run forever. My father's a car guy, forever swore against Japanese vehicles. Mostly, the "buy American" battle cry. He's got a Hyundai now, and swears up and down how great it is for the value.
Look, it's 2016. Everyone has this down now. Almost any car you buy is going to be pretty good. But, Toyota is up near the top of the heap in reliability.Comment -
