Usually when I travel in the states I try to eat at nicer restaurants so I rarely ever touch fast food.

3D you never heard of White Castle? I don't know exactly where they originated? But they've been in the Metro Detroit area since 1988 or so.... basically... you felt like you got more when you went there... back in the day... each cheeseburger was like $0.49 or so. So people just would load up... buy 20 at a time etc.
