I know for me personally having any kind of meaningful relationship is extremely hard to do. Military and some upbringing have made relationships with anyone very weird to say the least. I can run hot with people and then just disappear for unknown amounts of time. It's really a terrible thing to do to people to be honest.

As far as this situation it sounds to me like you just haven't found the right one yet JD. I know I found a good one that doesn't cause me this kind of irrational stress. Maybe it is only a matter of time and I should be heeding advice but 6 years strong thus far.

Gotta see where their head is at, she may have a personality disorder. I had an ex who had the same symptoms you just mentioned, she seemed to need attention.
