#3yes, they lose credibilty if they don't after telegraphing a rike for the past 9 months. The real question is if they will raise it again, or be forced to lower it in 2016 after raising it tomorrow.Comment -

#12Not a government agency. It's just a kind of consortium of banks that the government maintains control of.
I think the biggest misconception is that the federal reserve "prints money". If the federal reserve didn't exist, then interest rates would always be at zero and money would be printed at maximum speed all the time without anyone to say anything about it. The federal reserve has the ability to limit the money supply by exercising their authority over lending rates, not the other way around. The banks are the ones who create money.
Another misconception is that this country once had a true gold standard. We never have. The amount of gold or silver or whatever that has backed our currency in the past has always been valued at a small fraction of what a dollar was worth -- basically a last resort backstop to make sure that a dollar never became worthless. Also, we have never had enough gold in reserve to even come close to how many dollars are out there.Comment -

#20Emotionally, that may be what you feel, but the Fed is completely funded by banks. If the government didn't exist, banks would still lend to each other. They would just do it at whatever interest rate they wanted to.Originally posted by Boner_18It's 100% a political entity. To not see that is ignoring reality.
I doubt more than a handful of politicians have any idea how the money supply works. You are getting your info from bunk sources.Comment -

#21They won't they are controlled by the Federal Reserve.
For goon boy to say our country is doing fine is a joke.
This clown never ran a business or met a payroll a day in his freaking life.
When will the stupid sheeple in this country ever learn.

#22Shocked the Trump people aren't Rand Paul guys. Paul has the same ideals as Trump in regards to the Fed and the economy, only difference is we won't be at war with Russia in two years. Americans ignore foreign policy for some reason, and don't understand the importance of it.
Anyways, I'm gonna laugh if the S&P still falls after all this. Charts say it might, even though it hasn't followed good charting all summer.Comment -

#23Anyone else thinking about taking the 3/1 odds the Fed won't raise rates in 2 weeks. Seems like a very live dog. I'm guessing they stand pat and just give another song and dance about dissenting opinions. I just can't see them risking a market shock during the holiday shopping season.Comment -

#25Wait for Non-Farm Payrolls and the Unemployment Rate reports to come out on Friday. That's a start. Should give you a better idea.Originally posted by blackHIPPYso what does that mean we do ?
Dollar has risen a lot due to commodities crashing, and the Euro staying weak. It will be really really strong if the fed raises rates and starts a calendar for subsequent raises. This is bad for our economy overall. May be about time to let that sucker fall some though.Comment -

#26It means if you have access to a book that is offering a line, bet the Fed will not raise rates. It is not a sure thing, but it I think there is a 50/50 chance and you can get around 3/1 on it. Seems like a good value bet to me.Originally posted by blackHIPPYso what does that mean we do ?Comment -

That is ok, 10 minutes on google and you can find out the truth about the Fed and who controls who.Originally posted by magyarsvenskThanks for the thoughtful and informative post. *smh* People like you remind me why Donald Trump is leading in the Republican polls.

#32I'm still going to take a flyer at 5/1 odds they don't raise rates maybe just strongly signaling it is almost definite next out. I believe there is 12 individual votes. 11 voted to stay put last out with only 1 voting for a hike. I can see it being a closer call this time around but maybe standing pat again.Originally posted by Otters27Ya they are going to raise the rates this December.Comment -
