We don't know what the motive was, but for discussion purposes let's say it was because of a racist comment.
Would the racist comment be the reason for committing murder? My answer is no, the reason for this murder would be that the guy was an unstable, violent, delusional, ill-prepared-to-deal-with-life, animal. That is the reason you murder someone. A comment made is not a reason for murder, just an excuse.
