have no idea how to do this, so I ask for help. I am looking for a shipping method for some stuff and the best price. I'm in a small apt and the main thing to move will be stereo equip and Bed..if moving the bed is not worth it..cost will be too much. Any ideas?

#3Booya is right. Sell all furniture on CL and then buy furniture and everything when you arrive. Can pick up some great quality at a good cost. Many people moving and relocating all the time unless you are going to the hicks somewhereComment -

#5Reality is not worth moving it. Done a few myself and bought a high end king for over a grand and couldn't sell it because people don't want used mattresses , you are lucky if you get more then 300-350 tops. Sold mine to a brother in need for $250 just help out others in need, it comes back to you anyway.Comment -

#6Was looking at this myself in anticipation of a move. Check out http://www.swacargo.com/swacargo/shi...owToShip.shtml ...have to jump through some hoops for TSA approval, but can't beat those rates. As others have noted, if it costs more to ship than to buy a new something, buy a new somethingComment -

#7I know someone who moved here from Australia and shipped all of her shit in a shipping container.
It was very expensive and took 4 months.Comment -

#11I know several people who have bought a used box truck and when they got to there location they just sold it, so the move actually cost them no money what so ever, as everyone of them sold the truck for the amount of the expenses they occurred. You can find them for 4 to 5K on Craigslist for example. You can pull your car behind it.

#12Boomer and Booya 100% right
We just went through it as well and did the math
Sell the furniture, have a garage sale and get rid of everything you can
Only keep what you must
Buy new stuff when you get moved in
Another option, kind of an alternative to the post above, is to buy a used covered trailer to haul your shit and then just resell it when you get to your destination.Comment -

#13I moved 1,800 miles a few years back. I sold everything I couldn't move in a small U-Haul trailer and hooked that up to my SUV.
You can drive a shit-load of miles when needed and especially if you're trying to save money.
If you plan on taking a airplane, you're much better off selling everything and buying new items.Comment -

#14Sell the furniture and buy used furniture on CL when you arrive at your new home. It's just not worth the expense to move heavy items.Comment -
