#249Last week the Wendy’s Company did a public service on its second-quarter earnings call by explaining how mandated wage hikes will lead to fewer jobs for the low-skill workers that progressives claim to be helping.
First, CFO Todd Penegor talked about the pressure to pay higher wages and said that “we continue to look at initiatives and how we work to offset any impacts of future wage inflation through technology initiatives, whether that’s customer self-order kiosks, whether that’s automating more in the back of the house in the restaurant. And you’ll see a lot more coming on that front later this year from us.”
We've had innumerable people who have never run a business in their lives trying to tell us that the effects of a minimum wage rise can only be glorious. So it's refreshing to hear the views of someone who will actually have to deal with the effects of a minimum [...]

#251You would think if they start paying $15/hour they will be able to attract one decent guy that could do the work of at least 2 of the current minimum wage chuckers currently employed. #253I beg anyone of you guys who are against, at least bringing up minimum wage inline with inflation, to add up all your bills and figure up what minimum per hour you would need to live on and get back to me.
Health insurance alone is around $4 an hour more or less depending on the amount of hours you work and what plan.
Food is around $4 an hour. You have living expenses, insurance, vehicles and gas. Break all that down and you will see why a minimum of $15 is peanuts.
You might argue that a business isn't responsible for their employees bills, true. Business industry and the govt does set the standard for the pay employees receive though.
Lately we've been seeing big corporations (Wal-mart, Target) starting to increase their pay standards. If a full time
employee needs govt assistance to survive, there's something wrong with that picture don't ya think?
Since a huge part of our money goes to supporting those under employed, imagine if employees supported themselves?Comment -

These employees aren't supporting themselves with higher wages. Its already been proven in Seattle they are just asking for less work hours because the higher wages bumped them out of their government benefits. In other words, they make more on minimum wage + government benefits than they do with the raise increase. The only thing accomplished with this wage hike was to get them less work hours a week. I started in a factory making minimum wage. I was mechanically inclined. After a year, I applied for an apprenticeship. Completed a 5 year in 3. Moved up to lead man until they closed.
You can start out at minimum and move up, trouble is in this day and age, that's pretty much all there is
part time minimum wage. If you aren't a total waste, you can move up, but only if you want to.
Personally, if I was Obama, I would've moved the wage up right after being elected. Employers dumped
their work force on the doorstep of the govt in '08. I would've got them back by raising the minimum,

literally a million+ unfilled jobs right now and that doesn't even count entry level full-time jobs which are out there if you're willing to move. Plus, since you never use a calculator what does 2 part-time jobs equal?
People are lazy in their actions when you expand entitlements, it is the same reason you don't feed deer since you create a bad habit for them, just like you when it comes to actually educating yourself on what you're talking about instead of just being an old, stereotypical fart stunk in his ways.
and for someone who constantly fights for the poor man you said everything that needed to be said; "If you aren't a total waste, you can move up, but only if you want to."
100% agree therefore raising minimum wage is completely irrelevant to lifting people out of poverty. You clearly understand that now so no need for any more nonsense on the subject.Last edited by brooks85; 08-12-15, 07:40 PM.Comment -

#267you sound silly to put it kindly, you live in Australia and your logic is about as flawed as it comes; just as flawed as kraken's evidence for climate change. "Hey it's hot outside to me,"..."Hey this works here so of course it would work there."

I agree Australia is too small and too insulated by geography to say what works here will work for America... but most of the objections I hear about upping your min wage seem to revolve around do the individuals deserve it. That's just an emotive side issue and not a logical objection.
Every society has a bottom rung. Stop worrying about if your bottom rung are worthy or not and look at the benefits for you an everyone else that can come from all American wage earners making more money.
You're a consumption based economy. The 'every man' consuming spreads the wealth wider and turns over that money many more times than corporations do.

What should be the minimum wage be today adjusting for inflation? Without looking, I'll bet at least $11.

hmm ok..
"they won't need govt assistance that you and me pay for."
so naive is the nicest way to put it. You need to stop assuming people do the right thing, go study some evolutionary science and anthropology to learn about animals and the laws that govern every animal on this Earth. You're missing some very important fundamentals clearly and you drove that home with this statement; " If they are working on a wage they can live on, they won't need govt assistance that you and me pay for."
That is pure nonsense and only telling you as a favor. That is the kind of logic a kid would say you know? You gotta be smarter than that, come on buddy.Last edited by brooks85; 08-13-15, 07:49 AM.Comment -

wrong , I don't work with robots so I wouldn't benefit in any way installing, maintaining or repairing them once you artificially raise minimum wage. And that doesn't even factor in the millions you just put out of work because of your illogical reasoning for raising minimum wage.
And, of course, I would like our debt lowered but saying it means nothing. Pull out a calculator and you'll know the real answer is debt can not go lower, the amount we pay back will always be more year after year.
You gotta stop thinking in the parameters of what YOU want, that is why you are always saying things that are not true. They sound true to you because you conceived the idea in YOUR head but in reality they make no mathematical or logical sense. The fact you think raising minimum will "trickle up" is just silly, really evident you don't know what you're talking about.Last edited by brooks85; 08-13-15, 09:36 AM.Comment -
