In cricket you can bet on a heap of things. How much a batsmen will get via spread format. 0-10 runs, 10-20 runs, etc.

You can bet on how many run outs there will be, how many runs will be scored off the next ball, etc.

Spot fixing is basically manipulating one factor of a match. A bowler might bowl wides intentionally. A batsmen might get out for less than 10 runs.

It is easier than match fixing, and clearly it is rife in cricket.
