Asking your employer for a raise

If you don't ask for things in life you won't get it.

Please share your experiences regarding asking for a raise.
At my last job, after 6 months of working there I complained about my salary.

They basically said hang on until I was there after a year. After a year they increased my salary 16%.

Depends on your standing within the company, I recently threatened to quit if the boss didn't agree to give me a raise. I knew the company was having a hard time with a few critical people leaving in the past month or so. They couldn't afford to loose me at the time so they gave me what I wanted. It's important to pick the right time to ask.

I got another offer, gave them opportunity to match, they fell miserably short, I put my two week notice in, then they matched and I stayed

ive never had success asking for mid year reviews though, I would get the review just no $

I'm an independent contractor and have been one for years, so I don't really have experience asking for a raise at a serious job.

I can tell you you are absolutely right about the never asking part.

I never talk to women, much less ask them out, so I'm always alone.
