It's a good business, if you have the time and patience. I used to do it on the side, but it gets old really fast. Every time I'd ask somebody what they were doing before the problem happened, it's always the same answer... "Nothing, I swear! It just started happening!". It'd save both of us time (and the customer money) if they were upfront with me.

Cengage & McGraw Hill are terrible (or good) at doing this. E-books aren't much better as they are just as expensive as the regular book sometimes (with a considerably less cost to produce them). Things like nursing, law, economics merit edition changes often but most subjects don't. Bookstore's markup is usually about 20%...which is small compared to most any other division of retail. Book prices are out of control though and that balloon has burst. Cengage recently became insolvent despite their books being the most expensive in the industry. They're trying to make up ground with labor cuts and increasing their prices. The kids end up getting shit on.
Appreciate the post daner. I'm older now and back at school so I feel like I can see what is really going on, compared to these youngins. Like you said, the kids get shit on and that's what makes it so annoying. I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to do this without putting myself in major debt but these kids out of high school just blow money without a blink of an eye. I could almost deal with it but the shady shit the school I'm at is ridiculous. They have copies of books that are only published for the school and they'll require books that are 5 editions old just so that you can only get it at their bookstore and not online anymore. Whatever they can do to make money instead of providing a conducive environment all around for learning. I feel like Billy Madison sitting in these damn desks they give us.

Yeah, I got shit on with book prices. I had to pay $160 for a loose leaf Operations Management book that my professor told my class was the "cheap edition".

              Textbook prices are bullshit.

The only thing I am glad about is I don't have to pay $500 or whatever for Chemistry books.

You can save a ton of money on science books by buying the previous edition online. I made it through physical chemistry without ever buying the recommended text

Healtcare is number 1 and there is nothing near it. Let's say the medical industry as a whole is corrupted.
