#5Lots of sex, speeches, drugs. Good movie that any degen gambler could relate to.
Lots of hot nude women and the movie takes it more than hey look at this hot broads. I wonder how the young women took this movie as it is a total guys movie.
So when did it start costing 31 bucks for 2 movie tickets?Comment -

He was a mini madoff and the way he spun his criminal activity was brilliant. Guy stole couple hundred million was suppose to pay back over 100 million and paid back less then 15 of it. Did like 2 years in prison and has lived like a king off money he stole from middle class working people. Truth is he is a scum bag. People, say he lives in manhattan beach but I think he lives in Boca I have some friends who see him around town all the time. The locals hate him, he drives around in a Bentley and is always with a pretty lady. But hollywood is hollywood and it is a good story. I will probably see the move this weekend.Comment -

#22A lot of the stuff in the movie happens all the time on the Street.
I interviewed at a boiler room operation years ago, and it is the same crazy crap. Never took the job, thank the lucky stars for that one.
Smith Barney had the Boom Boom Room scandal in the 90s, so it's about the same time as the movie.Comment -

#29A lot of the stuff in the movie happens all the time on the Street.
I interviewed at a boiler room operation years ago, and it is the same crazy crap. Never took the job, thank the lucky stars for that one.
Smith Barney had the Boom Boom Room scandal in the 90s, so it's about the same time as the movie.
I interviewed at Stratton Oakmont as a "practice" interview after college, I didn't know much but I had an idea this wasn't a place to start a career. I forget how I set it up, but I put on a suit and went over to the office (Stratton Oakmont was already very well established) - it was a huge place and I was very disappointed to find out that my "interview" was a group interview. About 20 of us thrown into a room to get pitched.
So, I sit and then the guy (seriously doubt it was anyone major there) pitched Stratton Oakmont - I wasn't prepared to actually be swayed by anything, but I left there kind of fantasizing about the things he said, the cars/money etc. Never went back.
Years go by and I see Boiler Room - and that scene when Affleck gives the speech? Hair stood on the back of my neck. I had already heard that speech almost word-for-word before. And not only that, but when he throws a guy out for having a Series 7 license, I remembered during the Stratton Oakmont pitch the guy stopped in the middle and asked a black guy in a jean jacket in the back "hey, am I keeping you awake, guy?" and then told him to GTFO. The whole room (almost all of us were just like me, wearing a suit trying to look professional) was like holy sh*t. Only after watching Boiler Room did I realize that was just part of the act.
I read the book. Quite a read. I know I would detest him personally, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't on his side reading some of those stories.Comment
