Question For You Computer Know It Alls Out There
I found an old CD-Rom game and I want to play it on Windows 7 operating system. The CD clearly says only good for Windows 95/98/ME/XP. I tried to install it anyways... and it just won't load. Doesn't even appear in my starting programs. I don't know if I'm running Windows 7 64 bit or not? I think I am.

Any ideas on how I could access this CD-Rom with Windows 7? Thanks

you would need to install something like this http://www.scummvm.org

your old ass games were not designed for Win7 so don't think it would somehow magically run on your system

to find out whether you have a 32bit or 64bit system right click on My Computer - Properties and under System section it would say what version of Win you have

Good man Rocket! Yes I'm running 64 bit. Probably why this game has zero chance to work. Probably was made for 32 bit or lower?

Warbux... it's an educational game. My niece will be over for the holiday's and it's one of those... teaching you how to read... while doing a maze etc. No one else wants to teach her... so I figure I would try and help. 3rd Grade Reading.

Enable XP-Mode. Runs XP as a virtual machine. Also a free Oracle version which I preferred as it seemed more easily configurable.

I like that idea. VM's are very nice. You can do anything you want inside them basically and have no fear

Prior was quick reply. After further thought I'm not sure "games" requiring memory and resources would run so well in xp-mode. TMS, you can pick up 3 yr old laptop running xp for $50 or listen to JJ. LOL.

I appreciate all the posts! Just had a chance to read em all! I did download that Virtual Box by Oracle. I'm getting an error message that it can't find "The Boot" then after that part... how do you make it run easily? I just need it to play that one CD-ROM thanks Gents.

And thanks Rocket for that link. I will take a look at it!

Can't remember much issue with Oracle VB. Can you give a little more detail. Were there different versions to download?? Was pretty easy the couple times I did it and seemless once you have it. Download the executable and then install.

I tried watching a few youtube videos on it. I still can't seem to get it to work. After I install the newest version of Virtual Box it asks me what version of windows would I like to use? So I select XP. Then, it wants to know something about booting up or my bootable drive? I just left it on default. Whatever default is... it just says error.

I have a very old XP computer that I might have to use. It's just I'd rather have this on a laptop so it's much easier for her to learn etc. I have XP in an old tower model.

Love that game when I was a kid. I just googled it. Didn't know you could get a free version online. Hope I don't get malware doing it.
