    Computer Advice for you fuks
    1. Do NOT buy a computer from ANY store UNLESS its a laptop.

    2. For a desktop, talk to somebody who works on computers. They'll probably put together a computer for you for $100 at most.

    3. Do NOT get a spinning disk hard drive, opt for a solid state drive (if you need more storage get an external drive)

    4. If you have ANY desire to game, get a decent video card

    5. Get an Intel I5 processor, AMD's are junk and I7's aren't useful for most people

    6. Do NOT get Windows 8 on ANYTHING other than a tablet

I build comps all the time. Sorry, but you're not going to be able to build one with an I5 and an SSD for $100. It'd be difficult to build a bargain basement PC for sub $180 unless you're using used parts.

I meant labor charge, not parts

The i5 processor alone will cost you $200. But people who use their computers for basic stuff are fine with just the i3. I think the most important thing is just getting an external HDD to save your backups (important documents, files, software programs, pictures, etc)

An I5 isn't that pricey if you buy it from the right places. You guys are missing the $100 was meant as a SERVICE CHARGE not for everything

And install ubuntu on it. Watch how stable and fast your compu is without running windows.

One more thing is to waste as little money as possible on software. Most if not all can be downloaded and hacked with the right crack.

Because it's faster and more stable than Windows.

not a tablet guy myself, would have to look into it. Only problem with portable computers (laptops, tablets, etc) are the specs are so shitty. I have a desktop, 2 laptops, a couple tablets, and a Note. I use the Note and laptop more than anything

So what's the optimum PC I should get, after the one I'm currently using, dies out on me.
My curent one is over 5 years old.

As suggested, an I3 is a solid processor. If you like speed (quick boot times and such) and don't need much storage, get a solid state drive.

you could also go the AMD route instead of the i3

SSD has no moving parts..... So its faster and quieter because of this.
Ive had old hard drives randomly fail all the time, SSD are less fragile and hopefully a lot more reliable.....
Dunno about WIN8, im on 7 - but i thought you can use WIN8 like win 7 if you wanted to...

Also, what is wrong with Windows 8?

solid states are so much faster and more reliable, just a lot higher as well. Windows 8 is cheap junk. One of the worst OS's ever IMO. Not bad for a touch screen but everybody here hates it, I replaced mine with 7 on both laptops

solid states are good if faster load times are important to you. you can still get a cheap internal hard drive with a high capacity like 1 terabyte for a cheap price, and good hdd brands are still very reliable ~less than 5% failure rate. not a bad idea to get a solid state for OS and programs, and big internal hard drive for storing most of your data. windows 8 is a fine OS, you can customize the look of it. Just because there are large icons doesn't mean that it's a crap OS or only for tablets. the operating system underneath is still very reliable. windows 7 or 8 can probably load all your programs fine and you will get used to whichever version. if people like the feel of windows 7, not a big deal if you go with that.
