#2Not me, but a friend of mine 3 years ago near my house in Spain. Doctor said it was a false smooth snake. Good thing is, that their teeth are way back in their mouths, so often they don't hit when they are biting humans.
Last month there was a snake the whole time in a bush near the front door. Not sure what it was, maybe a Montpellier snake, because it was pretty big (~1.8 meters). We didn't care, the snake didn't care, so I allowed her to stay. Otherwise the gardener could have killed it, but we told him not to.Comment -

#3no but came very close.
was running in the mtns when i heard loud rattling so came to a screeching stop. kinda panicked cause i had no idea where it was at first, then saw a 4 foot rattlesnake directly in front of me. had i taken one more step, would've been bitten.
dropped a large rock on its head and left. came back next day and it was gone. i think a coyote ate it since i saw one nearby.
but my dog wasn't so lucky as he was bitten by a rattler.Comment -

#4never been bitten but come across them occasionally here in Australia. Brown and Red Belly Black snakes are the most common deadly ones around here.
My brother was bitten by a brown snake whilst rock fishing on a beach point. He didn't make it back the beach before collapsing and luckily someone spotted him fall and had an ambulance there really fast, or he could have been a goner. (they are quite a bit more poisoness than rattlers)
Despite there being a lot of them here you will hardly meet a soul who has ever been bitten though. And I can't recall the last time i heard of a snake death on the news.
They are smart for reptiles. They know to avoid us..Comment -

#5Bit by a cottonmouth when I was seven. From what I remember them telling me after I came to in the hospital was that I got really lucky that the snake had likely expended most of its venom a short while ago on something else, and that I'd be fine. Had to take these pills for a month, not because of the venom, but because of the whole "snakes don't brush their teeth" germ scare.
I didn't even see it, and thought at the time that my leg just got snagged by a fish hook. Then I blacked out.Comment -

#9Cottonmouth. Kinda grazed me more than a straight 2 fang injection. I sucked it out and kept fishing, but the swelling got bad and I had to go get a couple shots.Comment -

It's like those TV ads that try and scare people into buying disinfectant cleaners. "Millions of bugs on your kitchen taps"... exactly, we have lived in harmony with those millions of bugs forever. Intuitively, It's probably less safe for us to kill them than to have them there..Comment -

#16Encountered a cottonmouth once but didn't get near enough to it for it to bite me.
Biggest snake I ever saw was a fukkin King Cobra.
Boys, take my word for it, avoid the King.Comment -

You're far more likely to be seriously harmed after the fact by a human bite than a dog bite.Comment -

Children would be treated urgently after biting each other, and we as a species would consider biting each other a vastly more serious offense than we do if it was anywhere near as likely to make us as sick a a dog bite..Comment -

#32Bit years ago walking through heavy brush. I felt the bite, but brushed it off and kept going. About 3 minutes latter had unbearable throbbing in armpit. Couple minutes after that i was going down for the count. Taken for medical, no idea what snake so Doc gives series of shots. Last shot i received Nurse says: "This will make you very sleepy" before she pulled the shot out i was litterally going into a dream. Woke up next day in bed and no idea of the last 12 hours. Looked at arm where i was bit and had the 2 fang marks and swelling went down.Comment -

#33damn, recon...lucky you were around people
tennessee , bear... all kinds of shit living around here... the brown recluse in my area are as bad as anywhere... i have the house (in and out) pro sprayed 4 times a year and i spray all around with indoor/outdoor orkin spider/bug killer as well as keep some glue traps placed around the door and some windows inside...
for the snakes, i throw out snake repellent twice a year... its basically really bad smelling moth ball shit ... snake be gone or a similar brand works well.... but during the winter they will come check things out... the dogs help keep them away too, but im too close to water and they are curious creaturesComment -
