Why is it that when a hurricane hit Haiti this country had all kinds of relief efforts and aid efforts within a day and widespread reporting of the incident and when the Phillippines gets hit with one of the worst typhoons in history there are few if any relief efforts and much smaller scale reporting of the incident here in the US ?
Is Haiti better thasn the Phillippines ?

#2Same with the quake in China that killed 100,000 people.
Same with the Tsunami in India Sri Lanka
It's because they are broke ass black people. Broke Asians don't matter to the PC crowd in the USA.Comment -

#4Actually the U.S. was more concerned with securing Haiti after the earthquake rather than helping anyone there. Oil had very much to do with it.Comment -

#6Political Correctness is a large part of what is wrong with this country, specifically because it is used as a tool to fool and to persuade the masses. If we as a nation valued human suffering as much as they would have you believe after Haiti, then there should be Aid concerts, telethons, massive television coverage, and great public outcry for the people of the Phillippines (but other than the Red Cross, who is consistent in their mission, I don't see it).Comment -

#7Still really early. You're right, I don't see a lot of relief efforts either, but for hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, you still didn't see anything for a few days, and that was here. It took awhile in Haiti too. Let's see what's there by the weekend.Comment -

Just some of the agencies already in action
Philippine Red Cross, Unicef, The UN's World Food Programme, Oxfam, ShelterBox, Save the Children, ChildFund Australia, Plan UK, Australia for UNHCR, The International Rescue Committee, The World Food Programme
Discussions about a relief concert after Sandy didn't even start until almost 3 weeks after the storm.
Telethons in that area of the world are already in the works
In an effort to extend help and financial assistance to the thousands of Filipinos who have been displaced by Super Typhoon Yolanda, TV 5 will conduct a live fundraising telethon tonight starting at 9 p.m.
Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening. Support and concern after natural disasters has more to do with proximity than anything else.Comment -

#9Have been in contact with poster here who lives on southern island. Amazingly all they saw was medium high winds and a lot of rain/flooding. Never lost internet or phone service and was seemingly not very aware of the devastation that took place on the middle islands. When u only get one channel and its fuzzy, it takes a while for you to get information. Gonna be a bit to actually gauge the full impact of this. But they will need a lot of help just to feed homeless/displaced.Comment -

#10Dude, the Typhoon hit like 72 hours ago with lingering storms still hitting Ph. There is a ton being organized regionally. For starters, an earthquake lasts (the big ones) 5 minutes and then support agencies can get a game plan. A storm like this can make areas unreachable for days.

#13The point wasn't why isn't aid there yet, and I didn't say that. You really ought to read what is written before you respond. My question referred to the US rushing to aid Haiti (and the lengths people went to, and the amount of attention given to) and giving the Phillippines much less attention while not seeing people go to the same or similar lengths to help these people who are, and will be, in need.
Haiti is a mere 800 miles from the US, the Philippines is pretty much 10x that.
At this point, estimates are ranging from 950 to over 15,000 dead from this storm. That's how little we really know the extent this soon after.Comment -
