very rare peripheral nerve disorder. Anybody know anything about this at all, more than I can find with an internet search. Not feeling well the past 5 years or so and I have seen almost every specialist in the country. Never seriously overweight and trained a good portion of my life. Weights and running. Seems like my over training might be a cause of this problem. For years I did my weight training and then went on a long run usually over 6 miles and sometimes as much as 12. Then I would walk home. Often I did this twice a day, yes I overtrained. Without getting into symptoms just curious if any of you guys have any knowledge on this? It is highly unlikely though because family doctors never even heard of it. I got diagnosed by a neurologist. Not fatal but a real pain in the ass symptom wise.

#2Maybe you guys that over train might want to rethink that activity? I know you get into a zone especially when running but you might be doing more harm than good. I found running far distances so exhilarating and pleasant that it was no longer a chore it just happened and every step was great. I even ran when it was raining hard a downpour and loved every second of it. It is very possible you might be doing more harm than good.Comment -

#3i watched a tedx talk by a cardiologist by the name of peter attia, and here's the talk, it's like 15 minutes:
i HIGHLY recommend that you watch it; it forever changed my opinion on endurance sports.
cliff notes: long distance/endurance activities can cause heart disease, etcComment -

#4First, you listen to TED talks, that is very impressive. I too like to listen to those people. The best and the brightest, always.
Second, very interesting comments. Even hints the food pyramid is wrong? Did I hear him say he lost his weight by eliminating or reducing carbs?
Third, the book I am reading is all about blood sugar and insulin, same exact topic this guy is preaching about. And maybe he is correct maybe we have this thing backward. Incredibly interesting, thanks. I must send this to my bro.Comment -

#5Yah, I love Tedx/TedMed talks. And yes, Dr. Attia lost his weight by reducing carbs. There's a Swedish doctor over @ DietDoctor.com that also advocates a high fat, low carb diet as well. I think that if everybody would reduce how much grains they ate, we'd be an overall much thinner society. Grains are high calorie for not much nutrition. Get your carbs from fruits and veggies. Eat them until you're stuffed - you're not going to overeat them. Nobody is fat from excess watermelon or spinach consumption.
And I realize that I'm coming across as contradicting myself from earlier posts. I don't think there's anything unhealthy about eating grains, I just think that there are better food choices depending upon what you're wanting to do. If you're primarily a desk jockey, you really don't need to eat many grains at all. Your brain needs about 130g of carbohydrate daily (which your body can convert excess protein into glucose in a process called gluconeogenesis, but eating carbohydrate is a much more efficient process for your body). Assuming that you're sedentary, there's really no need to eat beyond 130g of carbohydrate per day.Comment -

#7I do have a kindle (what nerd doesn't? lol). I put 'Grain Brain' in my wish list; I'm a prime member, so I can borrow a book monthly for free. I just got Grisham's latest book, so I'll read that one first, then I'll get to yours.Comment -

#9I thought the link was wrong but kept my mouth shut, it didn't match up. lol No problem, when I get a chance I will watch that one too. Isn't it funny how the one I watched coincided with what we were discussing?
Yeah, I have prime too, not sure that book is on the borrow list.Comment
