I was on a flight a couple of years ago, coming back from Australia I think and there was an old "foreign" guy sat just across from me.
Throughout the flight there were 2 different, younger "foreign" guys who kept coming down from somewhere at the back to speak to him, and one looked a bit sweaty which I figured could be nerves, though it was pretty warm.
Anyway, I was keeping a bit of an eye on them and a bit later on one of the younger guys came back down and went towards the toilet, which was occupied, so he was standing around outside it waiting and I noticed that he was playing around with his phone, and must have checked it 4 or 5 times in the couple of mins he was waiting for the bathroom. Bear in mind that this was an old, non-smart phone I thought it was unlikely he was playing a game (unless it was "snake" maybe!) and it wasn't even like he was staring at it intently, he had it in his hand by his side and kept bringing it up to have a look at it, almost as if expecting a call or a text.
I started to get a bit concerned at that point - in fact I actually slowly and quietly unbuckled my seatbelt as I was watching him intently and was ready to tackle him if I saw him look like he was mumbling a prayer or something.
Obviously nothing happened and he used the toilet and went back to his seat, but I have always wondered whether that had been a test run for something or if he was just genuinely waiting for the toilet and fiddling with his phone as a habit.Comment -
