(Reuters) - North Korea said on Tuesday its military would be put on high alert and be ready to launch operations, stepping up tension after weeks of rhetoric directed against the United States and South Korea, who it accuses of instigating hostility.

SEOUL, Oct. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea spy agency confirmed Tuesday that the North has restarted its Yongbyon reactor that had been mothballed since 2007.

The National Intelligence Service told lawmakers that the five megawatt graphite moderated reactor has restarted operations, said Rep. Cho Won-jin.
