Kermit, building 7 was 2 blocks away from tower 1
the Verizon Building and the US Post office were adjacent to WTC 7, but for some reason they survived with minimal damage. They were the same distance away from the tower 1.

Here you see the "font" of the building that was closest to the Twin Towers,
showing that there was no major damage to the structure.

When the north tower collapsed, tons of flaming debris took out the southwest corner of WTC building 7 damaging the structural integrity. Around 2 in the afternoon firefighters noticed the building starting to bulge and deform and they knew it was going to collapse.
