New Orleans, only place they will charge you to use a port a potty that's overflowing onto Bourbon street onto a pile of beads clogging up the gutters next to a pile of trash 10 foot high. Place is a fukkin' dump. Partied there at Mardi Gras before Katrina hit. Should have let nature just wipe that shit hole of a city off the map.

Been to New Orleans numerous times. Total shithole. Not at all my scene. Good food, but not worth the trade out for having to be in that environment.

This being said, I've never visited the 9th ward area. You may want to check it out. Seems really nice.

New Orleans is pretty awesome. Great food, crazy culture, just a great town. Mardi Gras is a nightmare, but if you just go on any given day, it's a fun place. Couple of places to check out:

The Joint - great BBQ in the 9th ward.
Acme Oysters - if you like oysters go here and order everything. Grilled oysters are the bomb.
Frenchman Street - great live music...must see
Coquette - great restaurant in the Garden District.
Lafittes Blacksmith Shop- one of the oldest bars in North America. Watch your corn hole though its in the boys town area of New Orleans. No homo.
Lucy's retired surfers bar - good bar off the beaten path.
Also definitely do a swamp tour.

New Orleans is definitely not awesome. Born and raised in Louisiana, and New Orleans sucks. The food is good, but you can get same food anywhere in Louisiana. New Orleans is a total freaking shithole. All it has going for it is mardi gras. The rest of the year, meh, stay the hell away. Complete and total cesspool.

Go to Bourbon st just to get it out of your system but don't spend the majority of your time there . Frenchman st is where you want to go for nightlife. Food is second to none. Cafe De monde for breakfast. Try a poboy at Mothers. Don't listen to the haters here. The city is not nearly as bad they making it seem. If anyone asks you where you got your shoes they are on your feet. Swamp tour is worth it as well as WW2 museum.

Mothers for an omlette or Po-Boy.
Cafe du Monde for 3 am beignets when you are piss drunk.

Find a good music spot, there are a lot of them, and just bounce around to those clubs. Maybe get a cab to Tipitinas if the right band is there.
Be careful though. I love this place, but this is a rough freaking town. Stay in the tourist areas and you should be ok, but pay attention or one wrong turn puts you in harms way or in the middle of a tranny convention.

I get treated like a king down there whenever I visit so my opinion may be biased . My dads best friend owns lot of restaurants ( commanders palace etc). So when we go we're riding on the floats and have access to sick balconies overlooking bourbon to throw beads off of. I love the place. Discovered craw daddies, shrim poboys, etc. I though harrahs was decent. Insane line to get in during Mardi gras. Smart phones and girls gone wild really put a damper on the titty watching tho. No1 wants there all over Internet for beads. Can still see them but about 5% of the amount you'd see 10 years ago

Don't forget to get a hurricane at Pat O'Brians. We loved a restaurant called Ralph & Cacoos (or something like that!). Beniegts & cafe au lait at Cafe de Monde are definitely worth a visit.

NFL Week#1 will have the Saints hosting the Falcons - so thats guaranteed entertainment watching these two fan bases yell shit at each other.

Stay on Bourbon, Canal and Frenchmen - you will find plenty to drink, eat and gamble.

I will be there for the Saints game - cant wait.
