I could understand if he was holding hostages but he ordered everyone off. Seems like we need the other half of the story..... Just doesn't add up.

Standard suicide by cop. Not sure why SWAT wasn't there. With a knife and distance/cover there is a decrease in the threat. Tear gas/rubber bullets, etc. seemed like a more appropriate use of force.

Police love being in these kinds of situations. It's win/win for them. They have the excuse they need to finally put all that "training" to use and "justifiably" kill someone. It's like an NBA shooter holding the ball until just before the shot clock expires and then shoots a poor shot. If it goes in great, if not, oh well he had no other choice. Win/ win

No offense, but surprised by the depth of this statement.

When 9/11 happened I had a buddy who had a dad in the Army. He had been in the military for like 15 years. I knew this guy too. He was a solid American...respectable. My buddy asked his pops if he was worried about it, his response "Son, I have been training for this. It is like an athlete that trains for the big game and finally gets a chance to play in that big game." Never forgot that shit...

Yep. It's something about the power they have over other people and probably somewhat instinctual. And like you said, a lot of them are really good guys. Edit. I saw the dirty side that nobody wants to know about and then got to hear them talk about it afterwards. It was mind boggling and eye opening. I'm glad we have a police force but they almost have immunity for everything and that's extremely dangerous for the public.

If you pay attention you can hear cops on their way. SWAT may have been as well.
SWAT isn't immediately called upon instantly for every measly 911 call.
It's for escalated situations.
