Spying a ‘huge enterprise’ for US government and corporate state
A former Pentagon official said the recently-disclosed surveillance programs are “a huge enterprise” for the U.S. government and the “corporate state” in America.
The United States government’s “surveillance state” has been growing for years and much more intensively after September 11, 2001 attacks, Karen Kwiatkowski (former Pentagon official)
said in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday.
She said that people often misinterpret the US government’s agenda for its massive surveillance programs.
“This is a huge business for the corporate state and a huge enterprise for the United States government.”
A broad coalition of activist groups filed a lawsuit in San Francisco federal court on Tuesday demanding an immediate end to the “unconstitutional program of dragnet electronic surveillance” which was disclosed by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden last month.
“It’s good to see that these organizations are filing suit against the federal government for this unlawful surveillance,” Kwiatkowski said.
However, she said, “I personally don’t hold a lot of stock in having the court system resolve this in any sort of way.”
“I don’t have a lot of faith that the court system will uphold the fundamental constitutional protections,” she added.
Kwiatkowski urged her fellow American citizens and people who are concerned about their privacy to seek “technological and practical means of avoiding this surveillance net.”
People should turn to “small software companies that provide encryption services and alternative mechanisms for communications that are resistant to or provide some privacy protection inherent in the technology,” she said.
