Everything they eat here is deep fried or covered in oil. I had dinner at a neighbor house when I first moved here. I sat in shock as I watched the mother open a can of re-fried beans, put them in a pan and then add an equal amount of oil, a full can of oil mixed in the beans. I thought WFT and asked why? "What? that's how you make frijoles." No, that's not how I make frijoles. Even salads, which are rare, get bathed in oil and not good oil either. And Coke-cola comes in 3 liter bottles because they drink it more then water, milk or even beer. You see little kids in strollers drinking coke out of their baby bottles. It's not that they eat it what they eat.
