What were your thoughts on the movie? I thought the ending sucked but i liked the underlying themes/tones such as classism and how it's similar to racism today. I liked how the family stood up for what they believe in, and the fact remains that at the end of the day you still have to judge yourself and your actions and not just go with the flow aka the society "norms".

Is the punishment excessive? .....Probably, but it could have been much worse in other countries. He'll probably end up serving only 6 months which is enough time to reflect on what he said. Keep in mind, the state of Texas has been through some horrific school shootings with the worst being the 1966 University of Texas Massacre when a 25 yr old man climbed the observation deck and killed 17 and wounded 31 people in a 96 minute sniper style killing spree.

Was this a bit of overreacting from officials giving this 19 yr old jail time? .....Probably, but again, better safe than sorry. Every action begins with a thought and no one knows if this guy was serious or not. Only he knows and by using "lol" and "jk" doesnt discount the effect of what he said.
