Bedford, the town they left behind.
You love history? You love American History? I have a passion for American History especially in the two decades 1930 and 1940. Bedford is a small community in Virginia and they suffered the highest casualty rate when fighting on invasion day--D Day--of any other location in our great country. It is the story of that community and those people, mostly kids and now mostly gone. You know I buy into the greatest generation idea those kids had a difficult life to begin with because of the economic times and I think that helped shape them into people with great character. The huge majority of these kids went to war and most went to war willingly and participated in an invasion that had such a little chance of succeeding, yet it did.

They are almost gone, I imagine by the year 2020 almost all of them will be gone at least 90 some percent will be gone and you will no longer be able to hear the history from the participants. Watch this show, if you have a soul you will most likely wipe away a tear or at the very least be greatly moved. Of course, I think it is only available on public tv so that will eliminate some of you from even watching it, that is a shame. Do a search and mark it to be recorded, if you love history you will like this story.

Whenever I watch a documentary and they identify a person by name I almost always look that person up on Google. I did that last night too and a lady from England was being interviewed and she said she ran a pub where the American boys gathered. She then said she retired in 55, I thought what? How can that be, how can you still be alive. So I looked her up and guess what she just died last year at the age of 103. How about that?

I did the same thing with the fabulous Band of Brothers program. What a great show based on true stories. Main character died just a little while ago and lived close to me in Hershey PA. Remember when he was being interviewed, he said one of his buddies told him a story when one of his grandsons asked him a question about the war it went something like this (grandfather were you a hero in the war, and he replied no I was not but I served with a company of heroes) it was goose bumps worthy. God, how I love those stories.

Record that show if you can.

Dick Winters was his name, I felt bad so I had to look him up I didn't want to just say the main character to identify such an American hero. Dick Winters was a true American hero, rest in peace Mr Winters.
