The Westboro tornado blame game has already started, as the Westboro Baptist Church wasted no time getting into the mix of the Moore, Okla. tragedy. According to the Huffington Post on May 21, the controversial group is pointing to Jason Collins' coming out and the support he received from Kevin Durant as the reason the Oklahoma tornado ravaged the city of Moore.

Fred Phelps Jr., the son of WBC minister Fred Phelps, tweeted his Westboro tornado blame theory on Monday. He says “you do the math” by connecting Oklahoma Thunder star Kevin Durant's support of Jason Collins to the disaster.

people like this give religion a bad name and unfortunately garner all the attention from churches that do good things to help people. sad, if we would just ignore them and maybe spend more time covering stories of church communities working to feed the hungry and help the poor this world would be a better place. Maybe even inspire some people - religious or not - to go help out in their community. Instead these sick people get all the press and now the word "religion" puts a bad taste in peoples mouth.

They're really no different than someone in this forum using an avatar of a nazi or a wildly racist caricature. Westboro is just better at it since they know the law and subsist in part on people either assaulting them, or preventing them from their legal protests (and the church collecting the settlement).

They're just trolls - but they do it in the real world, not just online. Former church members will tell you that it's just a small few who actually believe all their tripe.

People repeating/reposting and get riled up is exactly what feeds this type of behavior.
