Me and my girl got engaged Xmas last year...she has 2 siblings in Florida and we are in New York. Her only Brother found out we were engaged and stated he would call her to congratulate etc...fast forward 3 plus months and not a word from him..nada. Her Sister hasn't acknowledged me as well since the event. Now, it gets worse. This future spouse, has sent the nephews xmas presents and has never gotten acknowledgment from kids or her brother..their dad. Now, one of the nephews is grad H.S. and she had booked a flight down there to be there and spend a couople days down there. I am pretty annoyed over the above and feel it's best I not attend...already the red flags go off..something is seriously wrong here. Supposedly, the relationship between my girl and her siblings is good. Pls discuss. Is it really possible that her brother could be so wrapped up in his life to acknowledge our announcement and the xmas gifts. All siblings and Fiance are in there 40's to early 50's. This already has me wan ting to flee the jurisdiction..pls discuss

They could be reacting based on her past relationships and may be quick to judge anything and everything they hear about you. This will only work out if your fiance recognizes their actions are not okay and she sets boundaries. If you have to be the catalyst and she does not take initiative, then you are SOL. I guess they do live in Florida and so that helps. Any chance that your fiance is the youngest sibling? Also, I would not take it personal and they sound a little screwy. Best to just be the bigger man and don't try too hard to get them to like you. If you think you'd lose your cool in Florida, stay away. If you can go and be yourself and let everything roll off your shoulders, then you should go. GL. I know your pain all too well. Funny thing is my wife's family is in Florida too.Comment -

Wow, hard to believe the gifts not being acknowledged... that's just plain rude. People comment that "in this day" my daughter still sends thank you cards for Xmas & birthday gifts but seems to me that is what should be expected not some kind of surprise. Isn't that just common decency when someone makes the effort & expense to give a gift?Comment -

This would annoy me too. First, and you didn't mention this did you talk to your girl about this? She is the person that should find out what the hell is going on. I would first think that this is a strange family you are about to enter and then I would think well just maybe the girl I am going to marry might be a bit strange too. I think it is up to her to explain to you wtf is going on.
