well, I have never owned a Tom-Tom, and I'm sure they are good devices, but my Garmin has never failed me. Love the free lifetime maps too.

Probably need to hear from some truckers, or someone who drives for a living.

I've owned both, and prefer the Garmin. The newer ones are great. For under $200, you get free lifetime map updates and traffic updates as well. (you used to have to pay for it) They're competing with phone maps, and car navigation, so the pricing is down and the features are included. Personally, I like having my Garmin over a phone map or car nav. Car nav, you're looking DOWN and off the road. Phone, obviously, small screen, in your hand unless mounted, etc. With the Garmin, it's left corner of my windshield and sooo convenient. You can even use the speak feature. "Take me home...." Works pretty well, I love mine.

I have TomTom on my iPhone. Love it. Paid like $50 and it also has free lifetime map updates.
