For the last couple of years my health has taken a steady downward spiral. I'm only 35 but it was feeling like something major was going to happen to me. Everyday I dealt with a wide range of issues such as rapid heartbeat/extreme lower back pain/can't sleep/no energy/frequent urination. Not to mention how terrible I felt everyday due to lack of sleep and my bones always ached. Finally I did what every middle aged man would do................................. I googled my symptoms and came across several forums mentioning caffeine/sweeteners as the cause of several of my issues. I decided that after reading several posts, from people suffering the same symptoms as me, that I was going to quit all caffeine and sweeteners. This was going to be tough since it probably made up a good percentage of my daily liquid in take. Almost 5 full days later and one of the worst migraine headaches ever I haven't felt this good in years. Everyone of my symptoms is gone!! I have absolutely no back pain and I'm sleeping the whole night with no medication. Has anyone else done this before and if so what was the result?? Giving up Tea was the hardest part but everyday it gets a little easier.

Cyberchondria (or cyberchondriasis) refers to the unfounded escalation of concerns about common symptomology based on review of search results and literature online.[1][2] Articles in popular media position cyberchondria anywhere from temporary neurotic excess to adjunct hypochondria. Cyberchondria is a growing concern among many healthcare practitioners as patients can now research any and all symptoms of a rare disease, illness or condition, and manifest a state of medical anxiety.
Not saying you're wrong about what you had though. Sounds like you were abusing caffeine.Comment -

#8My Dad drinks like 4-5 Extra Large Diet cokes a day. Been trying to get him to at least cut back/eliminate for years, but I think its a lost cause at this point.
He was starting to get sick and cut back a little after a bout with dehydration a couple months ago.
He used to drink 5 double big gulps in a day. That's 320 oz of Diet Coke.Comment -

That is a lot? I see people walk into 7-11 sometimes with those 100 oz mugs and fill it up with soda. I can't imagine drinking that much in one day....maybe spread it over a few days.Comment -

#12This is like flipping a coin. I have some pretty good green, but it's still a crapshoot on what the outcome is going to be. Am I going to get the intense munchies and ruin my diet? Or will I have an awesome time, laugh alot and then pass out? Or will my creativity go into overtime and I'll end up going to sleep at 5am because I ended up working all night long on some new awesome idea it had?Originally posted by tto827Roll a fatty. #16I'd say go with Coke Zero. Something I learned recently is that the amount of sugar in Coca Cola (or any soda, for that matter), you would almost instantly throw it up, because that much sugar is toxic to your body. So, they had to include a phosphoric acid in the sodas, which acts as an anti-emetic, so that you don't freakin throw up after drinking a soda! How freaky is that shit?Originally posted by onlookerSo is it better to drink regular coke then diet? I switched to diet, then Coke Zero a several years ago. #17Just be sure to stock the house with healthy snacks, key to any diet anyway. Google whatever result you want, its incredible, they got different strains for everything. Of course if you aren't getting it from a dispensary, its hard to verify this.Originally posted by chilidogThis is like flipping a coin. #19I would if I could, but no dispensaries here. It's decriminalized, but you're still limited to dealers who most of the time don't seem to know what they have on hand.Originally posted by tto827Just be sure to stock the house with healthy snacks, key to any diet anyway. #21Kale is nasty - so bitter. Grnated, it's hard for me to find kale in Costa Rica, so I usually put in a bundle of spinach (with the stems). I actually make Joe Cross' (from his Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead documentary) Mean Green Juice, which is:Originally posted by Ghenghis Kahntry mixing kale, cucumber, celery, etc. with your fruits.
1. 4 kale leaves (I use a bundle of spinach instead)
2. 1 cucumber
3. 4 celery stalks
4. 1/2 a lemon
5. 2 apples
6. small piece of ginger
It takes a bit to get used to, but the apple and lemon helps out so much, and the ginger gives it a nice kick if you like spicy. If the taste is too bad, then add 2 peeled oranges to the juice, and then it tastes soooooooo much better.
Juicing vegetables is where it's at - they're just disgusting, so you have to mask the flavors with fruits. But defnitely juice! You'll never again need to drink coffee, and you'll feel just amazing all the time. I can't stress this enough to people. You have to just do it!Comment -

#25Great job sledge! I quit too.. 3 weeks ago. You fall asleep faster and you get up refreshed! Amazing feeling! I was on diet pop for 10 years.
Anyone who is thinking about quitting cold turkey... I suggest do it Thursday morning.... you'll get through Thursday... but Friday is a slight pain in the ass. Saturday you're going nuts.... and Sunday night.... it starts fading out... and you're ready to rock n roll Monday at work.Comment -

#26This is good advice, and I'm glad you didn't overdo it with the fruits like a lot of people do. Fruit spikes your blood sugar and can get in the way of reaching you health/weight goals. Some people use a lot more fruit, or even worse, buy pre-made smoothies with "the equivalent of 12 mangoes/kiwi/grapefruits/etc". Would you ever normally eat that much fruit? No, and for good reason. Veggies on the other hand you can go to town on.Originally posted by chilidogKale is nasty - so bitter. #27I tried with no apples at all, and the taste was just horrible. 1 apple helps a lot, but 2 apples really makes it a lot more palitable. I'm using the exact same recipe that Joe used in his documentary, and it kicks butt!Originally posted by Ralphie HalvesThis is good advice, and I'm glad you didn't overdo it with the fruits like a lot of people do. #34The ratio of fruit:vegetables will vary from person to person depending on taste preferences. I try to get close to a 1:1 ratio, but many prefer a sweeter taste. In addition to making smoothies for myself, I also sell them to co-workers to help defray my cost and help them reach their nutritional goals. Mine last 2-3 weeks in the fridge. I use a good solid blender with metal blades, either 16 oz glass bottles or 20-24 oz bpa-free sport bottles with a wide spout, as well as 64 oz pitchers for any extra.
I use these ingredients every time: Broccoli- a true superfood, Frozen or Fresh Berries (Blue, and/or Straw, Rasp, Cran, organic on the first 2 because they are on the dirty dozen list for pesticides), Tomatoes (I use canned homegrown, at the store I go with organic fresh or a certain brand of plain sauce that is packaged in glass (trying to limit BPA cans) Lemons/Lemon Juice-Helps with the shelf life. I use the whole Lemon, peel and all so I use organic, cut into 1/8's, and then take the seeds out before adding to the blender. I top each finished bottle with a tsp of bottled lemon juice. Avocados-the healthy fats in avocados will help the body utilize the numerous vitamins and minerals in your smoothies, Fresh Garlic- super high anti-inflammatory vegetable, I sometimes lightly steam it in 1/2 clove size, (garlic is very powerful, so i use about 1 clove per finished gallon) Fresh Ginger -super nutritous and adds a unique flavor (blend well) Green Tea- about 1 packet/24 oz finished product, Peppermint Tea-aids in digestion Water. I often use the following: Carrots, Onions, Mushrooms, Mangoes, Bananas, Oranges, Grapefruit, Kiwi, ect.
I fill the blender about 1/2-2/3 full with ingredients and enough tea and water to get it up to 3/4 full, blend it well, transfer into an easy to pour pitcher and divide among whatever containers I'm using. When finished, top off with lemon juice, shake each bottle well and refrigerate immediately
When consuming from the sport bottles i will drink some, top off with water, mix it up and repeat a couple of times per bottle. Not being properly hydrated is a major health concern for many people, and unfortunately most of them aren't even aware of the toll that it is taking on their body.
