just looked dj armstrong up. listening to it now. Very cool.
Its funny how they call stuff "old school" and something like eric b and rakim paid in full coldcut remix sounds alot fresher and futuristic than alot of the crap out there right now. If you like these rock samples, this is one of the coolest ones I have heard tom sawyer rush. mixmastermike

Paul's Botique got a lot of love in the hood. Still ahead of its time. Qtip still bumps it.

Sure you know ztrip and dj p but look for uneasy listening and live at future sounds.
Dj muggs from cypress has an old blend tape that is classic. Starts with Tom Sawyer under ghostface and mobb deep. Audio 2 with doors. ** with blondie. His other tapes are garbage.
The beastie and green lantern mixtape New York State of mind is excellent.
Rakim is best ** ever. Heroin messed his career up.

I will definitely check out some of these mixtapes. I go to clubs and the music but sometimes these dj are spinning some awful rave stuff, I mainly listen to people who I know are spinning a certain genre like old r and b or something I can listen to at a cigar bar.I am not real adventurous listening to new djs if they are going to ruin my beer. I do listen to new stuff on hype machine, at least if you are at home and its playing on your computer you can change it if you dont like it. Some good stuff on there.

Just buy the music pouyasophy, if you have decent speakers or monitors or stereo equipment its worth it. I am an audiophile and I cant stand the degradation on alot of these torrents but sometimes all you can do is download it or listen to it on youtube or on some site if its not available anywhere to buy.

EDM blows but it brings in a peaceful crowd and tons of broads. Old school hip hop doesn't do the numbers unless you spin current hits too. My buddy just saw krs in Vegas and he said he did all songs pre jack of spades.

Buy music? Nope, sorry. I'll never do that...or pay for a UFC event as long as they're free. The musicians I listen to aren't greedy and for the most part make music out of love. They wouldn't even care if I stole their music. De la Soul makes music for the soul, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind either.

Do these old school hip hop groups do well in asia, seems like less of a hassle to put on a rap show overseas. I bet its mainly djs traveling and making the cash. Its a shame for hotels ,nightclubs, etc. my friend told me she used to do catering and van service for the rappers and some of the rock bands who would come to town, even did hollywood productions. She said the rap guys are some of the best tippers out there, great to work with.
More rappers just need to change the demographic they are targeting in the states, hit the coachella/boho/ even the dance crowd. Less hassle putting on shows. Stuff like eric b and rakim paid in full/de la soul/ stetasonic,Kane,Bambataa, all that early stuff is so much more creative than anything that has come out of rock/punk/grunge/alternative etc. since the clash and punk in the late 70s.
I just want to see more hip hop bands are at festivals but you got to have a good dj and good samples and dont let the rapper ruin a good beat and a good sample with a bunch of gangster crap that is probably a lie. Rakim just flowed over a beat, if the beat and sample isnt there in the first first part of tune I just dont care, too many rappers just overshadow the dj. Djs are probably the most interesting part of hip hop to me, lyrics are good but you have to have a good dj.

some damn good lyrics. Once got busy in a burger king bathroom. lol
I like my beats funky,
I'm spunky. I like my oatmeal lumpy.
I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack
but sometimes I get ridiculous
I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice
hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat.
Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy
I'm a freak
I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom
I'm crazy.
Allow me to amaze thee.
still one of my favorite videos

Rap and reggae are big draws in Japan. China is trickier. Most US artists aren't getting let into China to perform but Western culture is what the kids want.
Most rap shows blow because many groups don't understand how to put on a good performance. Kanye, Cypress Hill, DMX, Beasties and De la are the few that deliver a full show and not 40 guys on stage screaming over the track or 3 songs started and stopped a dozen times each. Took De la many years to become a great live set but they know the road is where the money is to be made.

Good post. A good stage show is what so few bands, rock/rap, dont have a clue about and the road is where a living is to be made in music. Watch this james brown video, thats a performer. Reggae is such a great show, so much of hip hop came from Jamaica and they are into everything, classic soul/r&b, country. I listen to to toots and marley all the time. Johnny cash had a place in jamaica, so much of jamaica is so creative, kool herc was from jamaica so much of hip hop came from kool herc and the sound systems in Jamaica and the immigration of Jamaicans to New York.
I love this cover of gin and juice. Snoop/ Snoop Lion loved this alt country cover. This james brown is totally what a great stage show is all about. Maceo, dancers, James going off .
Bootsys basic funk formula
