NORFOLK -- Sailor Chris Cole returned home from base Thursday to find his house on Chesapeake boulevard was burglarized. "They came through the garage. You can see where they crow-barred their way in here,” says Cole.
The thorough burglary may have lasted for hours says Cole, “They went through all the drawers, tore everything out to make sure nothing was hidden in there.”
Thousands of dollars worth of valuables belonging to Cole, his wife Stacey and their 4 month old daughter Elise are gone, including all the presents under the tree.
It gets worse.
The Coles' 2-year-old pit-bull Nyla was stolen too.
Not knowing if Nyla was friendly, a burglar threw pizza at the dog on the couch, then realizing the pure bred didn't bite she became one more thing to steal.
"She's part of the family so we want her back," says an emotional Cole.
The Coles say before the arrival of Elise, Nyla was their baby.
"Nyla is our family and that's the most important thing to us,” says Stacey Cole, “We don't care about anything else really. We just want our family put back together, especially for Christmas."
Norfolk police are investigating the crime and sent a forensic specialist to gather fingerprints.
A fund has been set up to help the Cole's at the Navy Federal Credit Union.
