So many resources for a decimated place. But do many invested so much already
Discuss, I'd love to hear from NY people as it seems dumb to not cancel it.

I know it helps bring money into their economy, but sometimes you have to take care of your base first. They're going to run it, but I don't really agree with it. Hope some local residents don't sneak in, and attack some runners.

Postponing it seems like the smart thing to do.
Does the city real need an influx of thousands of people so soon after that fuking mess?

It's totally different .
30,000 out of towners are expected for the marathon.
Not postponing this is an insult to all those still without power and proper government aide in places like Staten Island.

You have to pull a lot of more police and firemen for the marathon than for a basketball game.

will it actually bring in as much revenue as they're expecting it will? with all of the costs to put it on, the city is hoping that all of those visitors will be spending, but on what? for the most part subways are flooded, tourist attractions arent open or dont exist anymore, shops dont have power and the people who wouldve been running those stores are focused on rebuilding their own homes and making sure their family is safe . they should at least postpone it.

only the locals attend knicks and giants games?
any cop will tell you they'd rather work a marathon than a giants game with 70k fans.
btw, there will be thousands of steelers fans at the game.

Big time money maker for them. I think I heard 300 mil? Take some of that and put it towards the recovery.
They have far too many resources committed for the week to postpone it. It's all budgeted and planned. You either have it or you don't...you can't postpone it.

Run the marathon..............but under the same conditions that the city as a whole is in. no power for registration, no water and snacks for runners and volunteers, no blocked streets, ans no police or ambulance presence. See how important it is then.
I support the decision to cancel, our elected officials are acting in our best interest whatever they decide.
Not many people have loved ones who died. 46 in NYC. Thats 2 weeks of NY automobile deaths. OR 40.4 seconds of automobile deaths in the Nation.

Whatever decision they make is fine. They have the information, despite the conspiracy theorists they are acting in our best interest which is mostly alligned with thiers.
BTW In the time between this and my last post approx 4172 people died in car accidents. 532 of those fatalities included one or more intoxicated driver.

Good thing they cancelled it. Now they need to give the porta-potties & generators to the needy in Staten Island. And the busses that were going to transport the runners should now be filled with volunteers that want to help with the massive clean up effort.

imagine how many more generators and pps they could have bought with $350 million they lost.
