I love those old theaters, they tore down probably about a dozen in my home town area. What a shame some of them were truly exceptional theaters and even held vaudeville acts back when. They were beautiful buildings, ornate and just wonderful with thick seats and huge velvet purple curtains. Oh how I loved going to those movies and when they were tearing them down I didn't think much of it. Now I miss them.

You guys have any and where are they?

most of them are gone. some stay and fight. especially if they are the
only show in town, so to speak. they have to convert to digital to get
          the new movies now.
i have fond memories of quite a few which closed down, some converted
          into other ventures.
Providence still has Cable Car Cinema on South Main open
and the Avon on Thayer St. These show films. So does Jane
          Pickens in Newport.
Columbus Theatre is reopening in November with live entertainment.
Park in Cranston is now live entertainment. Greenwich Odeum is live ent.

All Drive-Ins are gone except the Rustic Tri-View off Rt. 146.
Somehow the Rustic keeps it up. I haven't been there in a long time.
But if you think about it, teenagers must like the fact you can
bring your own booze, smoke, and hump.

Yeah we have two drive in left in about a 50 mile radius, two out of dozens. One old theater was converted into a sit and eat theater but it just isn't the same. They gutted it and the look is completely different. We had two grand theaters in the down town area. One was the Capital and the other the Grand how about that. The Grand was spectacular it is gone so is the Capital. Shame

The Grand Theater first opened as the Grand Opera House in 1889, but was destroyed by fire in 1892. It was quickly rebuilt and the home to many vau...
