For Bigday, Opie, and other real outdoorsmen!
haven't been around much. I have been gambling, working my ass off, and fishing every damn chance I can get. Thought you boys would appreciate a beauty of a fish. Brown Trout measured in at 18 and half inches. Using a 4wt fly rod and under 5lb leader and tippet. Took between 15-20 minutes to land. I have hooked into so many huge fish on the provo...landing them is another matter. Caught a 20 inch rainbow on the Lower Provo and it fought much like how I'd imagine TT fighting. Very slow and sluggish...A real shame. The Brown in the picture fought like Mayan only a little lighter--fish had a lot of endurance--reason why...don't take offense Mayan.

JJ, TT, and others...you guys even know how to fish. Carp, crappie, and kiddie pond don't count. Didn't think so.

Smaller brown...can't remember the exact length. Dangerous to take photos with iphone while balancing in river.

Had another 18 inch plus brown on. Fought him for what seemed like eternity. He molested my fly-rod, line, and my reel squealed like a pig whenever he'd make a run. Mother f'er was just playing with me. Would go right into the main channel of the river just to see me run around in the river. Eventually he wrapped himself around my dropper line (2nd nymph) and couldn't swim naturally. This meant that he became a god damn log going down the river and I was running after him. He went down several rapids with me right behind---wasn't in the main channel. Eventually, he drifts into another nice fishing hole, where an ol'man was swinging a dry fly. I yell, "Sir, please help me and net him." Never ask an old man for a favor. He grabs his net and had a great chance to scoop him. Well, he misses. Instead of letting me bring the fish to him, he grabs my 5x tippet. Snap. Fish gone. I literally stumbled down a football field's length of rapids and runs just to have an ol' man f' me over. Worse part was is I am out of breath and he comes over and apologizes. Right after he tells me how sorry he is...he asks, "So, what kind of fly are using?"

                  Great fish, Higher.

I've caught some really nice trout, but don't get the opportunity to fly fish very often. I've spent a lot of time in both Arkansas and Missouri, so I've been able to fish some of those rivers, but here in the South it bass fishing 99% of the time. I love it, but as far as pure fishing....bass fishing doesn't even come close to fly fishing.

                    Nice work High3!!

Blasted some ducks two weekends ago. Head back to NoDak for ducks and geese end of October for a week trip. Two pheasant NoDak trips in November. Whitetail hunt in November as well. Kansas trip for pheasant/quail in December.

And just planned a Vail ski trip in December as well. I have a loving wife this time of year.

I did a vid demonstrating how to breast a duck under 20 seconds... Step on the head step on the tail end and pull. Lol, I'm sure some on here would get a kick.

Will try to do a few vids from the duck blind in action next time.

                    Cheers pal

I have caught some steelhead on a heavier weighted rod and that experience is very similar to catching a large brown on a 4wt rod. You're just along for the ride when you hook into one and they both have some insane endurance. Just got back and I'm already counting down the days (monday) until my next outing. So addicting!

Have caught a few steelhead on the north shore of Lake Superior in MN where the creeks and rivers flowing in. Crazy fights with those things!

Was in Vegas for a week. Fished a few days before leaving and caught some nice fish...no trophy browns. Caught a 20 inch mountain whitefish which was a blast. Fish jumped like a trout. So much fun and I highly recommend you guys get into this if you haven't tried it out. You don't need to buy anything fancy to get started.

not sure how to get these photos to show..if you right click and open in new window, you can see them.

So bigday, you get your buck? Friend got his bear and is in the process of getting a nice rug. Wish it were mine...was a nice one.

Thought I would share this video I found too...can't imagine what this would be like.

Short version of "Tapâm - a flyfishing journey" Winner of the 5th Annual Drake Video Awards 2010 "Best Fishing". Produced by Daniel Göz…
