    The Black Keys
Band is out of Akron, Ohio....

I heard that "Lonely Boy" song a few months ago...It kinda grew on me, and so did this band....Not sure how I never heard of them till now but they are pretty good imo....Not many newer bands that I dig but I dig these guys...They kind of got their "own sound"....

I'm youtubing some of their stuff now...I also like "Gold on the Ceiling" and "Little Black Submarines"

Anyone else into these guys ?

I've seen 'em at Lollapalooza and a few other festivals. They lay it down.

This is probably my favorite song by them.

I bought the Punk-o-Rama #8 cd about 10 yrs ago and it had the song 'thickfreakness' on it. Strange song to be on a Punk compiltaion.

Black Keys have been huge on the alt rock scene for a couple years now. Them and Arctic Monkeys are two of my faves. They had a big world tour with both bands touring together earlier this year. They have a lot of good tracks spanning like 5 albums but my faves are :

      1)Strange Times
      2)Set You Free
      3) Howlin for You
      4) I Got Mine

The frontman Dan Auerbach also released a solo album that's pretty cool if you're into that blues alt rock.

Arctic Monkeys are still the best band of the last 10 years imo.

If you're talking about Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys, he plays with mostly vintage 1960's guitars. His favorite is the National Map guitar. These are bad ass , made in the 50's and 60's. I'm a guitar player and collector myself so I can recognize most of the ones Dan plays. He's got an expensive collection. He's a guitar nut. There was a story about this one time they played a gig at some smaller venue and instead of taking cash, Auerbach accepted a 1950's Rickenbacker guitar for payment. The guitar ended up being worth like $30k. This was years ago before they were famous. I'm pretty sure they make a lot more nowadays.

Also that specific "sound" the Black Keys have depends a lot on the amps he chooses as well. I'm sure he's using a pure tube vintage amp. There's a big market for collectible amps as well.

I just looked up National Map Guitar....Here's a little tidbit I found interesting :

NATIONAL MAP Guitars were made in the USA from 1958-64 by VALCO and sold through Montgomery Ward. This AIRLINEĀ® MAP is a tribute to the NATIONAL Newport Guitar from 1962. Today they are played by people like David Bowie, The Cure, Calexico and White Stripes. Original MAP Res-O-Glas models now sell for $3,000-$5,000.

Yep....also because they're made from fiberglass, they have a real distinct sound that a normal wooden guitar can't produce. Youtube national map guitar and hear a sample of a guitar shop playing one....really distinct sound. One of the most unique american made guitars ever produced.
