Poker Bible Opinion. Best poker book.

I recently bought a few texas hold em books off ebay to read at work and what not for fun.
Have you read any of these? What ones did you prefer? What should I focus on???

Theory of poker,

So far I started on Ace on the river..its a bit alarming how phil iveys comment on the back of the book say something like .... zero players look and play the game like barry...

there is some intresting hands barry re lives where the reader gets to make decisions and the correct (Oat least what barry thinks) IS ON the next page.

I will update this as i am really going to pick these books apart and share what I find intresting and clever in this thread.

ACE ON THE RIVER B.G. -- I've never read this one, so let me know what you think.


CAROS BOOK OF POKER TELLS -- This is an interesting book. It's good for your local casino tournaments and rings games to a certain extent. But if/as you advance, people start pulling reverse tells. Tells are important, but in tournaments and cash games knowing what your odds and implied odds are in winning a hand outweigh tells.


THEORY OF POKER -- This is a pretty advanced book. I believe there are newer books out there that use the math/odds better than Sklansky (I'll post a book title later because I can't remember the name right now). But if you are serious about being a poker player, not just a hold'em player, then this is a good read.


SUPER SYSTEM 1 D.B. -- I love this book. NL hold'em has come a long ways since Brunson wrote his chapter, but it's still usable in cash games. I have to say that Chips Reese's seven card stud chapter is my favorite and the best illustration of how to play that game at a hight level. Others might disagree, but that's just my opinion.


Overall if you read all these it would impossible not to improve your poker game. Most of what you learn probably won't apply to SBR poker, but in a normal poker setting you should have an edge on the other players; and that is the only thing a poker player needs.

Download that.

Super System is a little out dated for hold em. Pick what you want to play. Tournaments and SNG, read Harrington's books. Cash games, download some videos. Harrington has a few books on cash games too, but I've never read them. There may be better books out there, but his are usually well written and easy to understand.

I like to watch the LATB cash games when Hanson and Tuckman are commenting. They give a lot of good insight into how to win and play in cash games.
