What's your opinion on poker rooms that are tied to sportsbooks?

I would naturally think that the players who play at poker rooms that are tied to sportsbooks would be the gambling, wild action type who would throw their money into the pot just for the heck of it. Am I right?
I am kind of a rare breed in that I do sports gambling but I am what you would call a very tight aggressive player in poker. I've been sports gambling at bodog for quite a while and I decided to give their poker room a try since well, I have an account there. While the play there was sorta crazy, it wasn't all that bad. I imagine that they have an assortment of diehard poker players and the sportsbook gamblers. But what about the others? How do you think 5dimes will turn out? Will it be all sports gamblers looking to have a good time playing cards? If so, I want to be there to rake in their pots with my strong hands.

I'm not sure I agree completely for two reasons. First, wild gamblers aren't the easiest to play against. They turn the game into a high-variance roller coaster. Over the long run you'll get the money, but if they happen to catch some cards they can really ruin your day. Second, sports bettors (the ones who aren't the wild gamblers) are an analytical lot, and I don't want too many people who can think at my table. Call me selfish....

Mcfly, I think you're kinda right, but I'm not sure that this specific characterization is enough to provide a cornerstone for winning play. You'll find wild and crazy players in any of the online cardrooms, regardless of whether they are tied to a sportsbook. But, every cardroom does seem to have a specific range of player types, it seems to me. Just adjust to whatever player styles are at your table and play solid poker.

I think both you and quick are right in a sense..........its not really sportsbook players im lookin to play poker against but online casino players (i.e. goldenpalace.com,cyrpto sites) . Yes your variance will be higher but so will your profits. So look for a place with not only a sportsbook but a thriving online casino . Online casino players are the real fish alot of sports bettors have some patience and skills, compared to slot jockeys who just keep pushing a button,.

Hi,

I oversee the Poker Room and the Casino for Sports Interaction - and in simple terms we've found that our Poker Room (on the iPoker Network) is simply a microcosm of what's occurring in larger pure Poker play operators out there.

There are wild players, there are tight aggressive players, there are "dip, dip out" casual players.

One of the more intereting things is that we have seen some more long term Sportsbook players (I'm talking customers that have been with us 5 or 6 years) behave very differently to haow they do in the 'book. In simple terms - we've seen customers stalking lines /teams over a period of time - making a great Sportsbook move, reaping the rewards - but then spending all their hard-earned winnings in the Poker Room - in a much more carefree manner.

A lot of it backs up the supposition that there are a lot of players who bet on sports with a business head on them - and play Poker to unwind.

As for Casino players - there's little crossover between committed Poker players and serious Casino players. This has been changing with newer additions such as Party's dual client, and their direct link to Blackjack in their Poker client. But there little point spending a lot of time trying to find a site that's got lots of Casino players - who are now playing Poker...
