    Chat disabled when "all in"
On the majority of poker rooms I have played at when a player at a table goes all in, you cannot chat until the hand has been completed. I'm sure you have all noticed this. I've always wondered why this is? Can anyone provide a reasonable explanation?

Standard procedure, you can't have the first person to act after the all-in be told by the player after him that he'll fold. Among other things.

yes, it is very standard. In my opinion, SBR should implement it. While I have not seen it affect the action here at SBR, there is definite chance it will.

Also the chat should only be blocked until the last action is complete.

Chatting should proceed once the action is complete and while the cards are still dealing out.

I kind of get your point, not that I really care about not been able to chat during an all in occurring, I just can't see it having a huge effect on the game. Can anyone provide an example. I'm tired and I'm probably been stupid

If someone at the table comments on what a big fold they are making, that they think the allin has shit/monster hand or how tight or loose the allin player is can affect the action to follow.

Basically if there is more than two players in a hand and especially if a person is allin, all chat should stop until the action is complete to ensure there is nothing that affects the play.

I have seen this many times live that really pisses me off. Also I am really ashamed that I talked once during an allin situation at a home game where I thought the guy making the decision was going to fold and I blurted out "ahh, I really wanted to see his hand", the guy decided to call and caught the bluff.

The guy who made the call swore that it did not affect him but I am very sure it did. I will not do that again.

Yeah, I was thinking along these lines. You can get punished though for doing something like that in a casino though? Like stating what you had after folding or saying "hes bluffing" and the like.

Yeah, it basically comes down to that the remaining people in the hand should not be able to converse with each other after an all-in. Just not proper etiquette at all. Can definitely affect the hand.

I've seen the chat feature been abused during normal play. I made a thread about it ages ago. Flop had two 10s. One guy raises heavy, guy calls. Another 10, 1st guy raises heavy again, whist the second guy is winding down the clock making his decision, one guy that was out chimes in, "hes bluffing I folded a 10". Second guy calls and sure enough the guy is bluffing. Whether the guy that said it was telling the truth or not, does not matter, or whether the guy would have called anyway, does not matter, it should not be done.

In that case though, what can really be done to the guy that said it? I severely doubt that the two players were working together because if they are going to work together, I'm sure they can use some other form of communication than the chat in the actual poker room.

They really need to change this. Chat should not be enable when players have to make a decision in poker.. ITs the same if a poker player in a live cash game talks about the players that are currently playing a hand strengths or weakness. you almost want to kill that guy for saying anything if it affects the out come for good or bad.. My point is just donttype and shut up while there's a hand in progress!!

it's there to prevent colluding among the players left in the hand

Isn't it already implemented? When I'm at tournaments, it won't allow chat when someone is all-in.

I don't believe so but I could be wrong because I have not specifically looked at it recently in the tourneys.

I am very sure it is not implemented in the ring game.

                        Cheers.

You're right. I guess I got it confused with pokerstars, where they do disable it.
