seems to be a lot tougher to make consistent money playing online anymore... the way the sites are set up and with the constant lower % hands winning... I didnt work for a few yrs and played purely online until the sites changed.. There used to be 5 or 6 man sngs where top 3 would place (3rd would get their money back). It was easy to play smart poker and grind daily. Now, it is impossible to find even a 5 man tourny, let alone one where top 3 place. As I said, things have changed, and I believe it is very difficult to be a consistent winner anymore... When 70% loses over 50% of the time (i kept my own stats for awhile before deciding to quit the online playing), I dont care who you are, it is tough to consistently grind... At least when you lose at sportsbetting, you havent stared at a screen playing good cards for 10 straight hours, only to lose to a 2 outer haha... best of luck to you though on whatever you play..

You can make money doing both. Usually you want to concentrate on developing one to a level where you can make consistent money and then incorporate other formats/games into your repertoire gradually.
There are differences between all of them but it really boils down to playing the one you like the most/can be the most successful at.

I use to play almost strictly in MTT tournaments the first 3 years. I was cashing about 30%, still do, but I loose concentration easier now for some reason. Tournaments are great to get your bankroll to "jump". Now Im playing about 80% cash games on tilt. With rackback and tilts bonuses and the fact they offer 10 Game mixed game, where you are bound to find someone at your table that doesn't have a clue about some of the games, you can def. make some easy coin.
Anyway, I haven't had a loosing year yet. Just find the games you enjoy, study them, and go for it. If you are playing cash games ... use game selection and find a table where there are more donks than rocks .... in the long run its hard to loose $ that way.

Cash games hands down.
Tournaments are always a long shot, you can cash/win a couple big tournaments to boost your bankroll but you can't make money consistently in it online unless you got a solid strategy which would mean you wouldn't be asking SBR for help. You can make make a consistent profit playing SNG's but there isn't a big profit in it.. Cash games should be your main source of income if you are a good player that is.

The online profit players that win constantly always change their game up. Win rizen released his book awhile back a lot of people took notice and the online profit players had to rethink their game. (not his book specificcaly but just an example)
If you were to do say 6 months of cardrunners or a online site like it,you should be able to keep up with the ever changing "profit norm"as far as changing your game up.
Players now a days think 2 level or 3 level plus when you get to NL25 and up and sng's over 20+2.
I suggest a top 5 online school, pick your poison and become an expert at it.
Cash games over 25nl or sng's over 10+1 is the way to go imo. Rakeback is a must.

I profited slightly last year and decided to change my game entirely.. I now play 3 sitngos and 2-3 cash games at once.. It seemed daunting to me at first but for me its perfect, it makes it more of a mechanical game.. you basically grind it out and you dont get impatient and play poor hands because you are frustrated with folding.. Not for everyone, but I recommend trying it

Cash games + rakeback + table selection = $$$
Tournaments are way too much of a grind for me. But there are plenty of players that know their proper ICM method, that grind out steady profits with tournaments.

Cash games definitely, and you always make more on the softer sites, than Full Tilt or Stars which are full of pros.

If you can't consistently make decent BB/100 rates at PLO8, quit online.

i play in small tourneys at stars i starting to get consistent with atleast get double my money or atleast my money back. i did last week finish 8th in a $1 tourney and got $60 so not bad. thing i be trying to figure out is how people be getting a big stack early guess they get the right cards early and just ride it out til the end. i just started playing like year and half ago so i got alot to learn but i getting there.

Cash tables. You can play for hours in a MTT and not even cash.Sure there are big MTT that if you win you hit a real nice payday but they have tons of players in them.Ex.I played a small MTT last night for 3 hours and cashed to get my buy in back.Played cashed tables for about 45 minutes and won double my buy in amount at the 2 tables I played.I would had to made top 4 in the MTT to = the cash I won at the cash table I was at.You also risk more playing at cash tables.
If you like sngs play the double ups.Ex 6 man sngs top 3 double the buy in.

When I first started out in 2003-04 I made out the best playing 9-10 man SNG's. Then as competition improved I switched to cash game. Still come out ahead but not nearly as much as I used to; everyone's solid
