    texas hold em questions
hey whats up. i am a sports gambler and making my first foray into poker. dont know much about it but i am learning. i have some simple questions regarding texas hold em.
    first off what is muck.

second can a straight beat another straight. or are they all the same. 4,5,6,7,8 is the same as 6,7,8,9,10 or does the higher number straight win ?

how come sometimes in the poker room i can see the winning hand and other times i cannot. i dont get that either.

anyone answer one or all of these it is appreciated.

i am getting better every time i play .

You can muck (fold to the dealer) your hands or show them. Depending on your option. In live, bettor/raiser must show his hand.

hole cards can not be substituted in texas hold em right ? No substitution. Play with what you were dealt.

            (a) A "muck" is a fold.

            (b) Yes a higher straight can beat a lower straight. (ie - someone who makes a 5,6,7,8,9 beats someone who make a 4,5,6,7,8 straight).

            (c) If both hands get called and go to the river....both hands have to be shown. If one person holding a hand bets and the other person folds to lose the pot, then the winning hand can collect his pot and doesn't have to show his hand. (Note- This is recommended to do so everybody at the table doesn't know what you have and how you bet with the cards you won that pot with).

Super System I and II are the best to give an overview of all variations of poker. IMHO.
